POSITION SUMMARY
The RN-Operating Room position is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR. Assist and anticipate the needs of all team members in the OR.
Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal,State, and accreditation standards, as well as facility policies and procedures
Assists in overseeing patient care activities in the operating room
Maintains a high standard of safety for patients in the operating room by:
- protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermalsources and extraneous objects;
- performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items;
- performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patients procedure is performed on the correctsite, side, and level;
- managing the patients specimens in the appropriate manner;
- communicating the patients current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care;
- administering medications safely and correctly;
- performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection;
- protecting the patients rights, dignity, and privacy;
- providing culturally and age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice
Delegates tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions
Documents nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly
Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects
Participates in the performance appraisal process
Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
Maintains required competencies
Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
Completes all required compliance training.

Ability to organize equipment, instruments, medication and supplies for cases according to patient needs and physician preference cards.
Assumes responsibility for competency and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.
Working knowledge and experience in hospital or ambulatory surgical center operating room.
Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.
Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized and cost-effective manner.
Ability to circulate all types of cases.
Monitors stock levels, outdated supplies and equipment needs and reports appropriately.
Ability to operate standard operating room machinery, equipment, autoclaves, washer sterilizer, and patient monitors.
Ability to maintain positive attitude and talk confidently about patient results
Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to speak, read, and write in English
Ability to work well under pressure and accept additional assignments willingly
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate workload
Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
Ability to hear, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push and pull
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Current Alabama RN license; Two (2) years operating room nurse experience preferred. IV skills preferred. BLS required; ACLS encouraged. All employees must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
