Cohort Member/Pre-Apprentice Job Description: Stage Management

Job Details:

Wage: $17/hour

Full-time: Short term contract, dates TBD, 32- 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, weekends and evenings as needed for a total of 480 hours.

Work Location/Environment: Primarily indoors in an office setting with some work outdoors and in the community, as well as studio time indoors and outdoors.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The Community Cultural Collective is seeking a Stage Management Pre-Apprentice who has basic knowledge and understanding in a broad scope of stage management such as recording blocking and line notes, writing rehearsal reports, scheduling, supervising rehearsals, participating in the collaborative process, and managing the stage crew. The candidate will participate in an earn-and-learn program spending time in an Opus Lab environment, participating in live events, and honing skills and techniques to prepare for employment in the industry. Then the candidate will spend time with an industry partner learning on the job in a professional working environment. The candidate will be evaluated based on their knowledge, improvement, willingness to learn and participate, and performance of assigned tasks.

Reports to: Creative Technologies Program Instructor

Qualifications:

  • Beginner to intermediate experience and knowledge in related fields stage management for live events and productions.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in a lab environment and professional working environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Required Competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency: Understanding of chain of responsibilities for live events and productions. Understanding of the organizational process and responsibilities of a stage manager for live events and productions.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to create necessary documents, schedules, and forms for all cast and crew. Ability to track sign in and out of cast and crew, as well as scheduling for the entirety of production.
  • Time Management: Ability to write and send out rehearsal reports and any other necessary documentation, memos, and changes in schedule in a timely manner. .
  • Communication Skills: Clear and concise articulation of project updates. Effective communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Problem Solving: Quick thinking to address unexpected challenges during production. Creative problem-solving to enhance the quality of events and productions.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to collaborative projects. Effective collaboration with different departments.
  • Learning and Initiative: Eagerness to learn and adapt to new industry trends. Proactive engagement in the learning process during the lab and on-the-job training. Openness to feedback and willingness to adjust creative approaches.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in pre-production, production/event, and post-production processes. Quality control to ensure a high standard of operations of a production.
  • Professionalism: Professional conduct in the workplace. Adherence to industry standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Networking: Building professional relationships within the industry. Engaging with professionals at partner locations during the on-the-job training.
  • Performance Evaluation: Actively participating in assessments and feedback sessions. Demonstrating improvement in skills and knowledge over the course of the program.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to present and pitch creative ideas to team members and clients.
  • Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols in a lab and professional working environment.
