City of Marshall, MI is Hiring a Patrol Officer Near Marshall, MI

Marshall Police Department is looking for MCOLES certified applicants who share the value of strong community ties and a unified team mentality. The historic City of Marshall is full of award-winning businesses and supportive community members. MPD is progressive in training and officer growth. We have five special assignments and are looking to expand. Our current assignments include Investigator, School Resource Officer, Code Enforcement, Accident Reconstructionist, and Crime Scene Investigator. 

MPD members can participate in an area-wide Special Response Team (SRT), Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF), and the Calhoun-Area Multijurisdictional Evidence Technician (CAMJET) team. We also have many in-house instructor opportunities including, but not limited to: emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, field training officer (FTO), and firearms.

Pay & Benefits:

  • Starting wage $26.12, current top out is $34.26 after 4 years
  • Eligible for Shift Command Pay (additional $1.50/hr.) after successfully completing probationary period
  • External vest carriers 
  • Updated appearance policy allows for facial hair and tattoos
  • 8-hour shifts with 2% differential if assigned to 2nd or 3rd shift
  • MERS defined benefit (full pension) with 3% multiplier and 8.79% employee contribution. Employees can retire and draw full pension at age 50 with 25 years of service.
  • BCBS Health Vision & Dental
  • Insurance opt-out option: If an employee has other coverage and elects to waive his/her enrollment in the City’s group health insurance plan, said employee shall receive forty percent (40%) of the monthly premium level that applies to the employee. Currently, an employee would bring home an additional $630 per month on a family plan.
  • Life insurance & Health Savings Account (HSA) plan
  • All duty gear and uniforms provided with free drycleaning, $450 boot allowance
  • 24/7 Department gym with a locker room and shower facilities

Paid time off: 

  • 96 hours of holiday leave immediately
  • 80 hours of vacation after successfully completing probationary period.
  • 8 hours of sick time accrues monthly
  • Ability to earn personal leave
  • Ability to turn overtime hours worked into compensatory time off

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree (minimum)
  • MCOLES certified or certifiable
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and 21 years or older at time of employment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • No disqualifying convictions or criminal histories
