On behalf of our Vineland-based client, Westridge HR Professionals is searching for a talented Winemaker to work alongside a team of passionate professionals dedicated to crafting world-class wines.
The winery…Located on the prime bench land of The Niagara Escarpment in Vineland, Ontario, this family-owned winery boasts state-of-the-art facilities and vineyards meticulously cared for by an experienced team. Crafting award-winning, ultra-premium wines for 25 years, this winery prioritizes quality at every stage of the winemaking process, from vine to bottle, ensuring that each wine embodies the essence of their terroir and showcases the distinctive character of their varietals.The opportunity…The Winemaker plays a crucial role in all facets of winemaking, ensuring top-tier wine quality throughout the production process, from vineyard management to research and production.Key accountabilities and responsibilities…Vineyard & Harvest Management:
  • Collaborate with vineyard management on farming practices, crop management, and harvest timing.
  • Negotiate grape purchase contracts and expand sourcing contacts.
  • Monitor crop conditions and oversee grape picking to ensure quality.
Winemaking & Production:
  • Manage all aspects of wine processing and finishing.
  • Coordinate crushing, pressing, fermentation, blending, and aging.
  • Plan production schedules and resource management.
  • Maintain detailed records and manage budgets.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and innovations.
Quality Control & Equipment Maintenance:
  • Implement quality control measures and sensory evaluations.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities for cleanliness and functionality.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Address environmental and safety considerations.
Budgeting & Planning:
  • Develop and manage winemaking budget.
  • Monitor spending and adjust as needed.
Team Management:
  • Recruit and manage regular and seasonal staff.
  • Train and mentor junior team members.
  • Plan workforce needs.
Wine Tasting & Promotion:
  • Participate in tastings and events.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations.
  • Manage special projects related to winemaking.
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience…
  • Bachelor's degree in Oenology, Winemaking, Viticulture, or related field.
  • 8 years of diverse experience in lab, cellar, and management roles within viticulture or winemaking.
  • Proficient in multitasking and managing changing priorities with a positive outlook.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license (in good standing); forklift certification preferred.
  • Ability to operate farm machinery such as tractors is advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable with task delegation.
  • Capable of meeting physical demands, including prolonged standing, navigating stairs, working at heights and in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
