Eichleay Main Career Page is Hiring a Civil/Structural Lead Designer Near Blaine, WA

Eichleay has a rare opportunity for a site based Civil/Structural Lead Designer

This is a full-time position that will be based onsite at a facility located in Blaine, WA with a work schedule Monday - Friday, 8-hour days with some overtime. As a member of our onsite team, you will work in a schedule-driven, collaborative environment working closely with our client and another Civil/Structural Designer to produce construction packages for maintenance, compliance, and improvement related projects. The role is open to Canadian applicants who qualify for TN visas.

Compensation:  $50-70/hour *anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Your knowledge of design is critical to this role where you will work with other disciplines to prepare construction packages for field crews in a refinery. Construction packages can require preparation of drawings, layouts, and 3D modeling designs; all could require the use of AutoCAD, CADWorx, or Civil 3D. Experience with developing designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures, and detailed scale models will be required by this role. Work may require the coordination of other designers and drafters and you will be responsible for reviewing and checking assigned work to meet quality standards. Your other duties include assisting engineers with the preparation of calculations and presentations, cost estimates, and bills of materials. You must be able to lift or move 25 pounds at a time, must not have a fear of heights, and must be able to climb ladders.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of Civil/Structural Building Code fundamentals (IBC, OSHA, AISC, ACI).
  • Prepare 3D models, 2D drawings and layouts, specifications, and material take-offs using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CADWorx, and NavisWorks.
  • Develop designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures, and plant arrangements.
  • Review project documents for quality assurance and collaborate with all disciplines during project reviews using Bluebeam Revu.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate work with other disciplines, engineers, and other designers.
  • Manage and forecast the workload of another designer.
  • Prepare and review project scopes, budgets, and schedules for projects using Microsoft office products.
  • Able to prepare and present designs and safety presentations to the team and client.
  • Effectively and professionally interact with all levels of employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings and safety reviews.
  • Ability to deal with change and demonstrate flexibility as required in a rapidly changing engineering design environment.
  • Perform simple analysis using hand calculations.
  • Prepares and provides responses to contractor RFI(s) and CR(s).
  • Provide field engineering support to the contractor for projects.
  • Work with vendors and client to procure equipment and materials.

Job Requirements: 

  • Associate degree in an engineering or scientific discipline and 8 or more years of experience; or bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with 4 years of experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance and oversight.
  • Previous experience leading a group and distributing or managing workloads.
  • Understands the need for coordination between other disciplines during design.
  • Demonstrated success with interacting with clients, vendor representatives, project field personnel, construction contractors and other staff.
  • Ability to create a scope of work document to communicate proper construction or installation of a design.
  • Proficient with CADWorx, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Revit and/or Smart Plant.
  • Sound comprehensive knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, CAD/graphics, computer 3D Modeling, and reading of multi-discipline drawings. 
  • Experience estimating required hours to complete a design and preparation of a bill of material or material take off (BOM/MTO).
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • The successful candidate will be supporting on-site teams and therefore need to work our client hours.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience with Refinery/Industrial/Petrochemical projects (ideally site based).
  • At least 3 years of construction industry experience.
  • Onsite experience in a seconded position within a refinery or industrial facility.
  • Experience supporting onsite Reliability group for maintenance, improvement, and upgrade related projects.

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Job duties will generally be performed at a Client’s office, client site, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Day to day job direction will typically be lead by our Clients designated project leader.
  • Conditions and/or schedule will vary at each Client location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
