Position Summary:

Perform purchasing tasks necessary to support the operations of the manufacturing plants. The employee in this position works closely with the Materials Manager to select suppliers, negotiate prices, freight options, purchase order terms and acceptable quality levels of supplies and raw materials. Buyer I assists the Materials Manager in preparing bid specifications and receiving bids from suppliers. Responsible for placing purchase orders with vendors for raw materials, services and supplies where financial impact is limited. Maintain a positive and professional image when working with internal and external contacts.

Essential Functions:

Other duties may be assigned, requested, or directed.

1. Monitor inventory levels and place orders to replenish stock of raw materials and supplies to support production schedules.
2. Prepare specifications and requests quotes or bids in order to make purchases in the best possible interest of Showplace Cabinetry.
3. Perform data entry including purchase order entry, work on various Excel spreadsheets and the AS400 Frontier computer system.
4. Maintain purchasing records and reports to insure accurate data on raw materials prices, purchase histories and part numbers.
5. Work with Accounts Payable to ensure invoices are paid accurately and on time. Maintain favorable credit ratings and payment terms with all suppliers.
6. Monitor status of open purchase orders and coordinate in-bound freight, expedite orders when needed.
7. Coordinate with suppliers and our Accounting Department the return of raw materials or supplies for credit. Returns may be for quality or various other reasons.
8. Work with suppliers to develop good business relationships that benefit Showplace Cabinetry.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 to 5 years of experience in a purchasing related position
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Accuracy with numbers
• Basic math skills
• Communication skills
• Ability to work well with people

Schedule:

Monday through Thursday 7am to 4:30pm

Friday 7am to 11:00am with rotating Friday afternoons in which overtime will be paid
