JOB DEFINITION:

The Media Manager organizes and maintains a program of library/media services and collaborative instruction. The Media Manager works under the general supervision of the site administrator and with assistance from the district library coordinator. The Media Manager supervises, establishes, maintains and coordinates library/media center activities. Under general supervision, the Media Manager performs instructional assistance and clerical tasks related to the purchasing, processing, organizing and dissemination of library/media center materials. Decisions and determinations are based on clearly defined media center procedures, instructions, rules and regulations. Application of independent judgment is required on standard work procedures. The Media Manager reports to the site administrator / District Library Coordinator.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establishes a plan for the circulation and retrieval of materials and equipment which includes a process for preparation prior to circulation, as well as proper care and storage of materials, and complete accounting and record-keeping systems for collection inventory.
  1. Processes library/media resources using the computerized library system.
  1. Maintains the media center’s computerized systems for cataloging and circulation of materials, providing monthly and yearly circulation statistics as well as year-end inventory reports to the building principal and the district library coordinator.
  1. Supervises students in the media center during recess, lunch periods, and before/after school, and during class rotations based on the needs of the school.
  1. Follows district and school policies and guidelines for maintaining appropriate behavior among students.
  1. Prepares orders for services, equipment, and new acquisitions to the media collection.
  1. Provides information access instruction to staff and students.
  1. Maintains appropriate records for media center equipment, services and materials expenditures.
  1. Works cooperatively with the teaching staff in providing resource materials and services consistent with current instructional programs.
  1. Maintains a collaborative relationship between students and staff to ensure maximal use of the library media center and its resources.
  1. Maintains an attractive and inviting atmosphere in the library media facility.
  1. Maintains communication and provides a link with information resource centers located outside of the school facility.
  1. Assists with implementation of reading motivation activities and programs.
  1. Implements library media center practices and procedures as directed by the District Library Coordinator.
  1. Performs instructional assistance, technology support, and clerical tasks related to media center materials, the school technology inventory, and the use of technology by staff and students.
  1. Provides first-level technology support, takes direction from the Technology Field Services Lead, and works closely with the assigned Site Technician.
  1. Acts as the building’s Tier 1 support for iPads and devices and assists students and staff to problem solve issues relating to the device and/or applications.
  1. Initiates requests for repairs on devices and various equipment used in the building to access resources from the technology department to complete the repairs. Includes assisting with investigations of vandalism or theft of technology equipment or software.
  1. Consults with and takes direction from the Technology Field Services Lead and coordinates support activities with the Site Technician assigned to the school.
  1. Plans, trains, and supervises purposeful assignments for student assistants and volunteers, and for other educational assistants.
  1. Attends meetings, work sessions and in-service opportunities as required by the District.
  1. Participates in planning the District’s coordinated media program.
  1. Fulfills other related duties as assigned.
  1. Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee works with classified and certified staff in a support role and must be able to communicate effectively, set priorities, organize work, and think logically to conduct problem-solving activities. The employee also works with students in a group setting and one-on-one. Bend-La Pine Schools serves a diverse student population including students from diverse backgrounds and language and students with learning and physical disabilities. Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and to sit for prolonged periods. The employee will also need to work with electrical devices, manage network and equipment connections in some hard-to-reach areas. The employee must be able to lift or maneuver up to 40 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma and/or equivalent and up to two years of advanced education or experience in the specific job requirements. The position requires the application of general principles or techniques and training not normally received in a high school. The position requires thorough technical knowledge in a specialized area.

The position requires working knowledge of technical procedures or work activity in areas and ability to teach them to others. In-depth knowledge of work-related school district policies and practices are necessary. Job proficiency can be acquired in twelve to twenty-four months.
