Purposes or function: To provide assistance to the cook in the preparation and service of meals

Qualifications: 

Be able to read, write, understand English, write and follow oral and written directions.
Must be able to follow orders and properly perform the assigned tasks
Kitchen experience is very helpful
Must be able to get along with and work well with others
Must be able to lift and transfer heavy items, hot and cold items.
Must be able to sit, stoop, stand, lift and walk intermittently during the shift
High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene is a must

Duties/Responsibilities:

Preparing scheduled meals and snacks
Follow regulations and dietary department policies and procedures
Follow cleaning schedule and perform cleaning duties as scheduled
Uses good sanitation and safety procedures
Read and understand the Material Data Safety Sheets: Chemicals used in the department
Use equipment and supplies properly 
Obtains food and supplies as instructed
Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies
Follows the job schedule and procedure as assigned
Assist in arranging tray cards, serving meals, and loading food carts
Assist in setting up the dining room and serving the residents
Assist in dish and pan washing, storage, and cleaning duties
Assist in delivering food cart to the nursing station
Assist in the preparation and service of meals
Understand the procedures for taking and recording food temperatures and calibrating the thermometers
Document food substitutions
Attend in-services: dietary, general in-services and scheduled computer in services
Will be responsible for filling in for others due to illness, vacation, also weather can be a problem and short of staff
Procedure for dating items, labels, and storing food properly
Must wear required uniform/clothing, shoes, hair covering
Must call the facility and Dietary Manager to report if unable to work your scheduled shift (do as early as possible)
Know and understand the procedure for a fire and tornado drills
Know the plan for emergency evacuation
Performs other tasks as are necessary and appropriate
Orientate and instruct new employees
