Veterinary Technician Full Job Description

Valor Emergency Veterinary Hospital is a small animal 24-hour practice in Bossier City, LA.

We currently have an opening for an overnight shift veterinary technician or experienced assistant who is interested in emergency/urgent care. RVT is preferred but not required. We focus heavily on the utilization of skills and encourage professional development and continuing education.

Duties and responsibilities you may own in this role:

  • Demonstrate safe and proper restraint of fractious animals.
  • Participate in receiving and giving rounds to ensure continuity of care.
  • Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications and understand potential adverse effects of medications.
  • Perform nursing care tasks such as placing and/or maintaining intravenous catheters, urinary catheters, nasoenteral tubes, nasal oxygen tubes, and chest and abdominal tubes.
  • Exceptional nursing care skills for a variety of hospitalized patients
  • Experience with anesthetic procedures in an ER environment
  • Exceptional nursing care skills for a variety of hospitalized patients
  • Triaging and admitting emergent cases.
  • Diagnostic procedures such as radiographs and a variety of in-house lab work
  • Continually demonstrate exceptional and empathetic client communication and education whether it be in written or verbal form in a timely manner.

Pay consists of a base hourly rate, shift differential where applicable, and a generous benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, life, disability/accident insurance. CE allowance, scrub allowance, 401k match, PTO, and more for qualified employees. Base pay ranges $16-26/hour. Base pay rate is determined by skill level, experience, and credentials.

Schedule that allows for work-life balance. Graveyard shift is available with a graveyard shift pay differential.

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • 1 years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate.
  • Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations.

License/Certification:

  • Veterinary Technician Credential (Preferred)
