Blackfly Investments, LLC is Hiring an Accessioning Lead Near Vancouver, WA

Position Title: Accessioning Lead

Effective Date: 05/28/2024

Reports To: Accessioning Manager

Position status: Non-Exempt Full-Time

Primary Function:

Oversee a team of direct reports who you will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing. Responsible for the receipt and efficient flow of samples to the lab. Help ensure specimens are received, sorted, and entered into the Laboratory Information System, labelled with barcoded labels, and processed correctly. Create a daily plan and assign tasks to team, ensure flexibility depending on sample volume or daily attendance. Prioritize top client samples, while creating contingency plans if there is rollover for the other clients. Assist the team on assignments and priorities as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive specimens from mail carriers, count and sort specimens by department.
  • Enter demographic information, test request, insurance information, and other pertinent data into the Laboratory Information System; scrutinize all samples for acceptability.
  • Document any errors found on the requisition forms, specimen collection containers, etc. and partner with the Accessioning trainer on coaching opportunities.
  • Scan requisition forms in LIS and store paper forms in a secure location.
  • Adhere to all safety and operational procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments such as Client Relations, IT, and Labs
  • Assist the manager in the daily operations of the Accessioning department.
  • Support the accessioning trainer with training if necessary.
  • Monitor and report/record employee breaks, attendance, and productivity.
  • Lead and engage in huddles as needed
  • Attend meetings either virtually or in person as the subject matter expert
  • Investigate and create IQEs in MediaLab.
  • Document coaching conversations and communicate expectations to team members.
  • Use the tools and resources to organize information.
  • Deliver reviews and feedback as needed
  • Conduct 1:1s on a schedule basis that works for your team dynamics
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory environment and be comfortable handling human specimens.

Knowledge Needed-

  • General PC knowledge, Outlook, and proficiency with Windows OS.
  • Use of barcode readers, scanners, copiers/printers, and fax machines.
  • Typing and data entry.
  • Patient care or office experience preferred.

Education and Certification:

Education/Experience Requirements-

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications-

  • N/A.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities.

Work Environment:

Vancouver Office – Work will be performed in the lab. Workweeks usually consist of 40 hours.

Office Environment:

  • Several common areas and meeting rooms for collaboration
  • Large windows which let in natural light during working hours
  • Fully equipped break room and bathrooms.
  • This is not a remote position, daily on-site attendance is required

Lab Environment:

  • Noise levels vary based on flow of business.
  • Most floors are tile or concrete - individuals may stand for extended periods of time on these surfaces.

Tools and Technology:

  • Desktop computer and laptop
  • Scanners and printers
  • For remote work, internet access is required

Hazards:

  • Work may be performed in a lab environment, full manual dexterity and visual acuity required. Employee may be exposed to potential physical harm from hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools, and equipment.
  • Hep B Vaccination provided at no cost to employee.
