Closing Date: June 21, 2024Job Description: The position works in the NEPA, Permits, and Coordination Division of MaineDOT's Environmental Office. The position is production focused with an emphasis on aiding project delivery by providing technical, regulatory, and process information related to environmental stewardship required by state and federal laws. The position will be responsible for the following:
  • Work with NEPA Manager on MaineDOT's responsibilities for the National Environmental Policy Act;
  • Coordinate and clearly communicate verbally and in writing within MaineDOT and with federal and state resource and regulatory agencies, municipalities, and the public;
  • Track MaineDOT project environmental commitments;
  • Prepare Army Corps of Engineers and Maine DEP permit applications following standard operating procedures;
  • Review, document, and report air quality requirements;
  • Review, document, and report noise policy requirements;
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of regulations that fall under the National Environmental Policy Act umbrella;
  • Assist with development of NEPA training materials;
  • Assist with reporting (e.g. Categorical Exclusion Quality Assurance and annual reports, highlighting MaineDOT’s environmental stewardship efforts);
  • Track and report on projects with mitigation;
  • Maintain Environmental Office website;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other Environmental Office Divisions
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.
