Heritage Group Homes, Inc. is Hiring a Residential Youth Counselor Near West Covina, CA

Heritage is a high quality residential treatment agency with six locations serving foster youth(girls) in six-bed group home (STRTP) facilities. Our motto is Kindness and Compassion in Action. We are seeking responsible, caring, qualified direct care counselors for our Residential program.

Details of Assignment:

Full-time (40 hours/week) Shift Available: Monday 3pm-11pm, Tuesday/Wednesday 11pm-7am, Saturday-Sunday8am-3pm . Thursday/Friday OFF

Assignment Locations: West Covina , CA

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidate must be 23 years of age or older and;

Requirements:

  • AA degree or 2 years experience working in a Residential Setting with foster Youth ages 12-19.
  • BA Degree in Social Science field, if no prior experience
  • Feel comfortable with teen girls and be responsive to them
  • Valid California drivers license or California ID, good driving record
  • Must provide proof of Covid vaccination
  • Successful and timely Criminal Background Clearance through Live-Scan Fingerprinting (includes a criminal check, Child Abuse Index, FBI). Agency will pay cost
  • Availability to attend all Staff meetings, In-Service training and other mandatory training sessions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide for nurturing care, supervision, observation, and protection of youth
  • Be involved in social skills training and help children acquire acceptable habits of behavior, appearance and develop improved personal relationships
  • Participate in youth group counseling and treatment planning sessions
  • Assisting youth with self-sufficiency (chores, life skills, hygiene)
  • Implement our behavior management program (Point and Level system) with fairness and equality to establish youths behavior accountability based on positive reward
  • Preparing meals for youth and helping teens with some homework (tutors available)
  • Use appropriate authority and discipline as necessary to set limits for behavior and help each child develop his/her own capacity for self-control
  • Instructing and Supervising youth on household routines. Ensure that household routines are completed in a safe and timely manner
  • Exhibit good judgment, maturity, temperament to care for children and ability to get along with other staff members
  • Utilize the Pro-Act principles to de-escalate youth who are compromising their safety, the safety of others or the structure of the program
  • Be able to organize and participate in group discussions, conversation during meals and engage in recreational and/or therapeutic activities with kids, as needed
  • Serve as a model of appropriate adult behavior for youth
  • Serve as a liaison and advocate to youth with authorized representatives, school personnel, law enforcement personnel and other key community stakeholders
  • Transport youth to medical/dental appointments, clothes shopping and other activities
  • Dispense prescribed medication and perform minor first aid as needed
  • Attend team events such as monthly staff meetings, In-service, and other mandatory training as required by County and State regulations.
