Discovering Justice is Hiring a Corporate And Foundations Relations Director Near Boston, MA

For over two decades, Discovering Justice has brought students and communities together to examine the workings of the justice system, explore the ideals of justice, and prepare them to engage in civic action. Discovering Justice runs after-school Mock Trial and Mock Appeal Programs in 15 school districts for 30 middle schools and 750 students, annually hosts more than 2,500 students and community members into the Moakley Courthouse for Field Trips, Tours, and Speaker events, and provides in-school civic education curricula for more than 30 school districts for 20,000 Massachusetts students in Grades K-5. The organization is funded by charitable foundations, corporate sponsors, individual donors, and earned revenue through its various programs.

The Program and the Role

Discovering Justice’s Corporate and Foundations Relations Director will work with staff and Board to raise the revenues to provide its innovative civic education programs to students across Massachusetts.
As the Corporate and Foundations Relations Director, you'll be the driving force behind building the program capacity of the organization through coordinating the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Discovering Justice’s corporate and foundation supporters.
The organization raises more than $350,000 a year at its annual spring gala through the support of more than 60 corporate sponsors. The organization’s foundation fundraising annually raises more than $450,000 from more than 30 family, corporate, and community foundations. You'll not just be directing this work; you'll manage these programs in alignment with our core values, ensuring every step we take resonates with our mission and unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

    Work with Discovering Justice leadership to create and execute a development plan with clear objectives and goals.
    Identify and research new corporate and grant funding prospects.
    Cultivate relationships with foundation and corporate prospects and partners.
    Craft persuasive proposals and narratives that articulate Discovering Justice’s mission and programs to secure funding from corporate sponsors and foundations.
    Prepare and submit grant applications to a variety of foundations, government agencies, and other grant-making institutions.
    Make direct asks to secure Gala sponsorships.
    Coordinate the operations and fundraising at the Annual Gala.
    Steward relationships with foundation and corporate partners. Manage reporting of successful grant partnerships.
    Work closely with the Board of Trustees to engage them in fundraising efforts.
    Align programs and proposals to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Cultural Diversity Standards. Ensure the fundraising program adhere to and promote DEI principles, reflecting a commitment to cultural competence and equity in operations, partner training, and program content.
    Strive for continuous improvement through the collection of data and strategic feedback from partners to evaluate, report, and enhance fundraising operations.
    Work with the Administrative and Development Associate to manage fundraising through Discovering Justice’s donor database Every Action, ensure accurate record tracking for data entry, gift processing, and acknowledgment letters are sent.

Day-to-Day Experience

Your morning might start off with a meeting in Downtown Boston with a program manager from a family foundation that has expressed interest in our after-school mock trial program. Come afternoon, you could be driving to Framingham to observe a first grade class of students engaged in our innovative Children Discovering Justice curriculum to see our programs in action. Your work day could wrap up with a meeting with the development staff to lay out the strategy to approach our corporate supporters to secure their support for the annual gala which is four months away.

    Your Team: You will work with the Executive Director, Communications and Development Senior Associate, and Administrative and Development Associate as team members for corporate and foundation.

Location

Our office is situated within the iconic John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse in Boston. The location allows us to work closely with federal judges and other members of the Courthouse community to make the Courthouse a vibrant civic space. We embrace a hybrid work approach, combining the advantages of face-to-face interactions with the flexibility of remote work.
For this role, in-state travel to meet with foundation staff and corporate sponsors is required. You will typically work at the Moakley Courthouse two days a week and travel on average one day a week for program visits and partner stewarding. You will also help out the Mock Trial and Mock Appeal teams during their culminating events at the end of December and in May. You must have a valid driver’s license, and having a vehicle is preferred, but not necessary.

Qualifications

    3-5 years of relevant experience in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of charitable foundations and corporate donors.
    Passion for civic education.
    A demonstrated commitment to social justice and a belief that the justice system can and should work for everyone.
    Ability to build productive relationshipsSuperior written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
    Proficiency with google suite. Have database and spreadsheet proficiency
    Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing grants from diverse sources.
    Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to independently manage complex, multifaceted projects and meet deadlines.
    Flexibility, inclusiveness, and strong collaborative skills.
    Prior experience managing or supporting annual fundraising events.
    Skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers
    Creative, self‐starter and goal driven individual who can also work well with a small, hardworking staff.
    Time management and flexibility with job duties and can exhibit follow through on tasks and goals.
