Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance is Hiring an Accounting Assistant (Part-Time) Near Philadelphia, PA

Who We Are

The Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA) is building long-term power for Asian Americans in Pennsylvania. We coordinate political, electoral, and legislative work to hold our elected officials accountable, engage in culturally competent and linguistically accessible direct voter contact, and build solidarity with other aligned communities of color across the state. As the first and only political organization directly advocating for the needs of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Pennsylvania, we operate primarily in South Asian, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese communities in 15 different languages.

Since our founding in 2020, we have run the largest Asian American voter contact programs in the country, introduced a groundbreaking community-driven API Policy Platform for PA, established Pennsylvania's first-ever pan-Asian organizer training program, and successfully elected community champions who represent us at every level of government throughout the Commonwealth.

Position

API PA is in search of an Accounting Assistant to support our accounting and administrative activities, ensuring support for both API PA and its affiliated entities. This includes our 501(c)(3) sibling, the Asian American Community Fund of Pennsylvania (AACFPA), and our political action committee, API PA Votes. The Accounting Assistant role is a new position created to support our growing capacity and will play a critical role toward furthering our mission and vision to building Asian American power in Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual committed to advancing the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide data entry support for the Director of Finance & Administration, including entering deposits and invoice payments into Quickbooks and processing reimbursement requests on a weekly basis.
  • Serve as a liaison to vendors and resolve any billing inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Work with credit cardholders to submit receipts on a monthly basis and assist to locate missing receipts or resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain complete and accurate vendor files including W9s; support annual preparation of 1099s.
  • Assist the Director of Finance & Administration with month-end and year-end close by ensuring timely and accurate financial data entry.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure timely and accurate bi-monthly timesheet submission for payroll.
  • Manage order requests by ordering office supplies, booking travel accommodations, and responding to all other requests.
  • Maintain office supply inventory on a regular basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of accounting and/or general administrative experience.
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online desired but not required.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in business, accounting, or finance preferred. Education may be substituted for experience on a case-by-case basis.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to enter information accurately.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate well and work productively in a team where roles are flexible.
  • Desire to learn about the local and national Asian American community and history.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is a part-time, remote position with preference to candidates located in the Philadelphia area. Hourly rate is $20 to $25 depending upon experience. Part-time schedule will be Monday through Friday, on an agreed upon schedule, during business hours (9AM - 5PM), not to exceed 15 hours per week. Contingent upon funding and the candidate, we anticipate transitioning this position to full-time in 2025.
