The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Public sector experience in a media and/or communications role is highly desirable.Under general supervision, performs a variety of paraprofessional media, communications, and outreach-related activities in support of strategic initiatives, including those involving social media, graphics, audio/visual projects, public information, and content for official websites; and performs related work as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis is a specialized, paraprofessional-level class. Incumbents are expected to independently perform a range of media- and communication-related duties and provide paraprofessional-level support in the design, development, planning, and implementation of internal and external communications, and media relations activities. Assignments are given with general guidelines, incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services/complete assignments. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.

(Illustrative Only)Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.Develops and implements Citywide media-related outreach programs.Writes and edits material for website, print, publications, and other forms of media.Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations on program compliance with applicable laws and regulations; ensures all printed, web, electronic and video materials are ADA compliant; ensures all media and images are in accordance with copyright and privacy laws.Executes promotion and outreach for public events.Performs a variety of graphic design, layout, and pre-press tasks associated with the production of a broad range of printed and electronically disseminated materials and publications.Ensures photographic coverage for publications and/or organizational programs and publicity; takes or directs the taking of photographs and video for organizational use.Organizes and maintains video and photo archives.Maintains equipment inventory and provides training to departmental users.Provides technical assistance and training on media-related software programs such as web content management, desktop publishing, and photo and video editing.Provides social media updates on behalf of other departments to promote and communicate events, programs, activities, project updates, and accomplishments.Reviews and recommends revisions (including copy and graphics) to organization’s website.Tracks analytics for media efforts such as web, social media, and media coverage.Receives, researches, and responds to public requests and inquiries related to organizational programs.Assists in the preparation of requests for proposals for hiring outside consultants, vendors, and contractors; assists in researching contract service and supply needs; monitors contract compliance.Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and monitors budget expenditures.Performs related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, on-site at various events including unpaved/broken terrain and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle to visit various City and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although occasional walking between outdoor work areas and standing for extended periods of time is required. Employees in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSEmployees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to potentially hazardous physical substances.
