Substance Abuse Court Assessor - Position Starts 7/1/2024

Job Summary:

Right Step is seeking a skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Court Assessor to join our team. The ideal candidate will conduct thorough assessments and make appropriate referrals for defendants referred by Judges and/or Court Commissioners. The Substance Abuse Court Assessor will focus on identifying alcohol/drug use and other barriers to treatment engagement, working collaboratively to support defendants in their recovery journey. On trial dates, a detailed report documenting substance abuse and treatment recommendations will be provided to the Judge.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of defendants referred by the court, focusing on alcohol and drug use, as well as other identified barriers to treatment engagement.
• Utilize standardized assessment tools and clinical interviews to gather relevant information.
• Provide detailed written reports to the Judge, including assessment results, treatment recommendations, and progress updates.
• Make appropriate referrals to treatment providers and support services.
• Collaborate with court officials, probation officers, treatment providers, and other stakeholders to coordinate care.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Participate in court hearings and provide expert testimony as required.
• Stay current with best practices in substance use assessment and treatment through ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
• Licensure or certification in substance abuse counseling (e.g.,CAC-AD, LADC, LGPC, etc) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance abuse assessment and treatment.
• Familiarity with the criminal justice system and court processes.
• Strong understanding of ASAM PPC
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.
• High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant software.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods.
• Ability to travel to various court locations as needed.

Work Environment:

• Office setting within a courthouse or probation department.
• Interaction with clients who may be experiencing significant stress or behavioral challenges.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: From $52,000.00 per year
