We have a fantastic opportunity for a Showbiz Journalist to play a vital role in our growing Showbiz Team, sourcing and writing industry-leading stories on all things celebrity and TV in the US.

Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered in New York, and now we are looking to add to our remote teams in California. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description

You will generate multiple stories a day, covering day to day celebrity and TV news, with great pictures and engaging video to drive traffic, ensuring that the focus is always on the site's most-searchable stories. The role will also include an element of production, enabling the amplification of stories across our titles.

You will deliver a fast turnaround on stories across both the US and globally, and bring in exclusive stories that set us apart from our rivals. You will use your PR contacts to pull in exclusive interviews and news stories that will deliver a richness of content to the site while delivering a mix of breaking news, exclusives and feature stories. All while ensuring that every piece of content is researched and published in accordance with the Editor’s Code of practice.

As the position will be based in California, you will have the opportunity to cover some of the biggest Showbiz events in the state!

Shift Patterns & Working Location

This is a full-time role, working remotely in California. Please note in order to be suitable for this role you must be eligible to work in the US and reside in California.

The standard shift for this position is 3:00pm - 11:00pm PST. 1 weekend in every 4 weeks is also required, with time back in lieu provided to you during the week.

A level of flexibility is required in this role, as shifts are open to last minute changes as a result of live Showbiz events. 

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with passion for what they do and the drive to discover new stories that will resonate with and engage our audience. You will be a skilled reporter with knowledge of media law and a track record of Showbiz and/or TV reporting experience while understanding what works for a digital audience. You will have a fantastic eye for detail and have a keen interest in the developments of the TV/showbiz world.

You have first rate editing, writing and subbing skills, and enjoy the test of working to tight deadlines. You’re flexible, inquisitive and are on the pulse of what makes a great story! Experience of working in a digital newsroom and SEO would be beneficial.
