This position involves serving as a high level paraprofessional (providing special education support to a child with down syndrome) while in a typical classroom for a 6 year old going into second grade with down syndrome. This position is ONLY open to females as there is self hygiene involved. This position is employed by the family, not the school. The ideal candidate will assist in providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs.

This role includes in-person support to the one child and daily communication with the parents. The role requires someone of high energy, positivity, and with extreme patience. Also, someone that enjoys teaching, building a child's confidence and developing a child's overall skill set .

Responsibilities:

• Support the family in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
• Assist students with educational and behavioral needs in a classroom setting
• Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as directed by the teacher
• Help create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment
• Collaborate with parents and teachers to develop and implement educational activities
• Assist with classroom management and behavior reinforcement
• Assist with assignments in classroom and working on out of classroom academic support to the child
• Collect information on assignments, report where the child needs to improve areas, and develop strategies to improve
• Provide daily reports to parents on behavior, social and academic performance
• Transport child to school and after school events

Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is preferred
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs
- Knowledge of childcare practices and early childhood education
- Strong classroom management skills
- Ability to support curriculum development and implementation
- Understanding of math concepts to assist students as needed
- Passion for educating and empowering students with diverse learning needs
