District Primary Purpose : To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous Mariachi curriculum / instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose : Provide instructional assistance for the La Joya ISD Mariachi Program.
Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
Associate’s Degree or 48 college hours
Experience / Knowledge : Assume professional responsibility for providing learning experience in mariachi music and the preforming arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitude, and knowledge to meet and exceed the objectives obtained by the Mariachi curriculum.
Achieving academic excellence requires that the Mariachi Assistant work collaboratively with the Mariachi Director, administration and school staff.
Major Responsibilities and Duties :
The Mariachi assistant shall preform all job functions at the high school and middle school and assume all responsibilities outlined by the Mariachi Director.
The Mariachi Assistant is an integral part of the total school program and has specific professional responsibilities related to the certification held and professional position assigned and shall :
2. Provide a variety of learning experiences so that students demonstrate skills and concepts learned through individual and group performances.
3. Review periodically the performing arts curriculum for the district and recommend modifications when appropriate so that the curriculum serves as a framework for planning sequential instruction to address the core curriculum content standards and the development needs of the students.
4. Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate individually and in ensembles or large groups the skills and talents developed in the music program, bringing pride of accomplishment to students and to the school.
5. Maintain an inventory and in proper working order all musical instruments, musical scores, and mariachi attire.
7. Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom managing when appropriate, multiply instructional activities simultaneously.

9. Provide and effectively organize a variety of materials, equipment, media, and community resources to support the instructional program, using the LJISD school expectations.
10. Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance mariachi experience.
11. Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
12. Use effectively presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
13. Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues.
14. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
15. Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the Mariachi Director of any unsafe conditions, following establish procedures.
16. Recommend to the Mariachi Director the supplies and equipment needed to support instruction.
17. Adhere to ethical and legal standards.
18. Other duties as assigned by Principal and / or Mariachi Director.

Some out-of-district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours, regular physical demands and other strenuous demands of job performance.
