Summary Job Description

Responsible for setting up and operating manual or CNC grinding machines in order to grind external and internal cylindrical or tapered surfaces of metal components. Follows instructions and charts during grinding procedure.

Primary responsibilities

• Grind external or internal cylindrical tapered surfaces.
• Rough and finish flat, cylindrical, and conical surfaces.
• Read and interpret charts, drawings, and blueprints.
• Determine product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts
• to be ground.
• Determine grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used.
• Mount grinding wheels.
• Dress wheels according to specifications.
• Use dressing devices.
• Lift or hoist workpieces.
• Confirm ground workpiece has the correct specifications.
• Utilize micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges.
• Use proper wheel guards on all grinding machines

Qualifications

• Solid mechanical aptitude
• Maintain clean and safe work station
• Ability to work with others in a professional manner on a regular basis
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Knowledge and expertise with ID/OD grinding, including but not limited to the: Bryant Center Grinder, Kellenberger, Kellenberger 100, Landis, and Voumard machines.
