POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Non-Union, Non- Benefitted

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Program Director

SUMMARY:

Our Residential Treatment Programs serve clients who are recovering from a behavioral health crisis. This program is designed to provide intensive behavioral health support in a home-like environment as a voluntary alternative to hospitalization. As our Medical Assistant, you will be supporting the vocational nurse and psychiatrist Registered Nurse in performing various tasks to support staff assessments and delivery of health care for clients of Community Solutions with mental and/or drug addiction. The medical assistant will perform general medical support, coordinate the administration of medications(s), and apply professional medical techniques and standard practices. In this role, you will join a team of behavioral health practitioners providing our clients care, treatment, therapy, and life skills.

This part-time opportunity is available working 24 hours per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday in our Residential Treatment facilities located in Morgan Hill.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited medical assistant training program.
  • Previous experience with behavioral health or residential facility is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Comfort and ability to effectively communicate with individuals with medical/mental health disabilities.
  • CPR Certification or willing to be become certified within the first 60 days of hire.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to stay organized.
  • Work efficiently with patients and multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and time management.
  • Knowledge of respective county behavioral health department and community resources.
  • Effectively engages and interacts with management, staff, clients, and the community demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. Handles interactions in a professional and courteous manner using active listening skills, thoughtfulness, and diplomacy.
  • Consistently applies good judgment and safeguards information to comply with all confidentiality requirements and ethical and legal obligations of the Residential facilities and the Agency.
  • Culturally demonstrates competency by effectively working with people differing in value systems, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, language capabilities and disabilities.
  • Familiarity with PCs and basic software, such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, etc., and the ability to access medical records systems.

What You'll Be Doing in the role of Medical Assistant:

  • Under direct supervision, the medical assistant performs administrative, clerical, and technical supportive. services and is responsible for providing care to residential clients.
  • Partners and coordinate patient care with the psychiatric technician.
  • Promote positive client engagement and provide services in the Residential Treatment facilities.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and billing and coding tasks.
  • Perform basic clinical tasks, such as taking vital signs and administering medication.
  • Assist with conducting physical evaluations, patient drug screening, and COVID-19 testing.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the medication storage room.
  • Provide patient education and answer patient questions.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and ethical standards.
  • Administering medication as directed by the physician/psychiatrist.
  • Takes patient vitals and assessments and conducts weekly check-ins.
  • Transcribe physicians’ orders into the Medical Administration Record (MAR).
  • ·Orders patient medication, refills, and labs.
  • Ensures medication storage and destruction complies with county and state licensing standards.
  • Responsible for admission and discharge orders.
  • Assisting the nurse with MD rounds.
  • Supports staff during crisis.
  • Reviews and maintains accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Administering medication as directed by the physician/psychiatrist.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with medical procedures as needed.
  • Provide education and compassionate support to patients.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure vital patient information is shared accurately.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to inquiries.

Working at Community Solutions:

Community Solutions offers an hourly pay rate of $20 - $27. This position is not eligible for benefits outside of accrued sick leave in compliance with CA paid sick leave requirements.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to both sit and stand for extended periods, talk and hear, and use office equipment; occasional need to lift and move objects up to 25lbs.

Work Environment and Location: This position is located in Morgan Hill and may require frequent travel between our two Adult Residential sites.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance as required by specific programs, licensing regulations and Community Solutions practices.
  • License: Possess a valid California driver’s license, current car insurance and a good driving record as documented by a DMV report and consistent with the Agency’s liability insurance requirements.
  • Requires an automobile to perform routine job duties.
