Metro Transport of Gastonia is Hiring a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation - Driver Near Gastonia, NC

Employment Requirements:

To be eligible for employment as a NEMT driver with Metro Transport, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a valid driver's license
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Have a good understanding of traffic laws and road safety rules
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Push Wheel Chairs with passenger weighing up to 300lbs

Employment Responsibilities:

As a NEMT driver with Metro Transport, you are responsible for the following:

Providing safe transportation: Your primary responsibility is to transport passengers safely and efficiently. You must ensure that passengers are seated comfortably and securely, and that their needs are met during the journey.

Following traffic laws: You must have a good understanding of traffic laws and road safety rules. You should obey all traffic signals and signage, and drive defensively to avoid accidents.

Maintaining the vehicle: You are responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is in good condition before starting a journey. You must regularly check the oil, fuel, and water levels, as well as the brakes, tires, and lights.

Assisting passengers: You should be friendly and courteous towards passengers, and assist them with any mobility challenges they may have. This can include helping passengers with getting in and out of the vehicle, assisting with personal items such as walkers and wheelchairs, as well as making sure the passenger is securely fastened.

Record-keeping: You are required to maintain detailed records of your trips, including passenger names, addresses, and trip destinations. You must also maintain accurate mileage and fuel consumption logs. This will be facilitated by web based apps.

Communication: You must communicate clearly and effectively with passengers, dispatchers, and other drivers on the road. You should be able to handle emergency situations calmly and professionally.

Maintaining a clean vehicle: You are responsible for keeping the vehicle clean and tidy, both inside and out. This includes regular cleaning of the interior, as well as washing the exterior of the vehicle.

Planning routes: Depending on the destination and the number of passengers, you may need to plan the most efficient route to take. This can involve using a GPS device, consulting maps, or seeking advice from dispatchers. This will all be facilitated with dispatching software.

Ensuring passengers' safety: You must ensure that passengers are secured with seat belts or other restraints, especially if they have mobility issues. You should also be aware of any medical conditions or disabilities that passengers may have, and take appropriate precautions.

Adhering to schedules: You may need to adhere to strict schedules for pick-ups and drop-offs, especially if you are transporting patients to medical appointments. You should be punctual and arrive at the destination on time.

Maintaining confidentiality: You may transport passengers who have medical conditions or disabilities. As such, you should respect passengers' privacy and maintain confidentiality with regards to their personal information.
