The mission of The Sharon Academy is to nurture intelligent, independent and creative thinking in a small school community, awakening students to their immense potential and the difference they can make in the world.High School French Teacher2024-202560% FTEThe Sharon Academy High School seeks a qualified, high school-level French teacher (60% FTE) interested in teaching an integrated, proficiency-based curriculum in 2024-2025. We are seeking a candidate who is eager to fulfill responsibilities in the following areas: Teaching Employ innovative, proficiency-based practices of teaching and assessment. Teach 3, year-long classes potentially including Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of French. Update the learning management system, keep grade data current within two weeks, comment on student progress regularly, and generate 4 report cards for all students each year.
Update course syllabus and class description (for Program of Studies) before the end of each school year. Engage with curiosity in School-Based and Individual Professional Development that aligns with the mission of TSA, individual professional growth, and specific teaching goals. Provide Level/Tier 1 and Level/Tier 2 Academic support in class and during Phoenix Block periods. Stay up-to-date on current 504s, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and Educational Support Plans (ESP); adjust curriculum, teaching, and assignments accordingly.
Attend required IEP or 504 Meetings that might be scheduled before and after school. Non-teaching time outside of scheduled class/prep times may involve student monitoring, supporting school programming, conferencing, community building, and other tasks supporting The Sharon Academy mission. Develop and implement consistent classroom routines that provide joy, challenge, and accountability to students. Create a visually stimulating classroom environment, which includes maintaining at least one bulletin board space for each classroom that regularly displays student work or visuals related to classroom learning.
Student Support Attend student support meetings to develop or revise student plans as needed. Communicate regularly with parents; meeting as necessary. All Faculty are Mandatory Reporters as required by the state of Vermont.Independent School Culture Support the mission of The Sharon Academy. Assist with daily staff duties such as study halls, morning, afternoon, and athletic supervision, club and forum blocks as determined each year and updated as needed.
Participate in the high school musical Interim at least to the contracted percentage, excluding hourly employees. Attend the beginning of the year potluck, parent information nights, a minimum of one evening Interim performance, all-school field trips, graduation, and at least two other school-related events. Faculty substituting for another teacher is included as one of the details in support of the mission so long as the teacher has volunteered, and the substitute work does not directly prohibit or interfere with other duties. Actively help in keeping the school a clean, healthy, and safe environment.Collaboration and Planning Meet with other teachers, as necessary, to coordinate curriculum or discuss student concerns, Attend all staff meetings and department meetings as scheduled and participate in faculty meetings and in-service days, which include crucial training and professional development.
Teaching Qualifications: Teachers must hold a teaching license or be qualified, through education and/or experience, to teach the subject(s) for which they are hired to teach. Such qualifications must be approved by the Independent School Consultant at the Vermont Agency of Education.
