YMCA OF MANKATO, INC is Hiring a YMCA Marlins Swim Team Head Coach Near Mankato, MN

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Coach, working under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, and in accordance with the mission and policies of the YMCA, will contribute to the overall goals of the Mankato Family YMCA. The Head Coach is responsible for developing and sustaining all functional and organizational aspects of the YMCA Marlins Swim Team. Must be available evenings and weekends.

SCHEDULE:

Average 25 hours per week for 40 weeks (Main season September – early April & Summer season end of May – beginning of August).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.

2. Establish practice schedules and workout plans based on participant ability.

3. Schedule the required pool time through the YMCA and the City of Mankato in conjunction with the Aquatics Director.

4. Hire, train, and evaluate a qualified coaching staff in conjunction with the Aquatics Director.

5. Schedule Coaches to properly staff all practice sessions and meets. Attend scheduled practices and meets.

6. Make sure that assistant coaches obtain the proper certification to be able to coach.

7. Conduct monthly staff meetings to review policy detail and overall progress of the team.

8. Recruit parent volunteers for meets and other special events.

9. Attend all state YMCA Swim Team organizational meetings to establish meet schedules and review all applicable rules changes.

10. Secure a site for all home meets in conjunction with the Aquatics Director.

11. Communicate all meet and practice schedules to parents and swimmers. Communicate with parents, swimmers, and the Aquatic Director about problems and other items of concern.

12. Schedule team participants into individual and relay events for all host and away meets.

13. Ensure that participation from each competing team are entered into the Meet Manager computer program for all host meets. Communicate results of host meets to all participating teams.

14. Organize and conduct an annual “Kick Off” meeting and Year End Banquet.

15. Learn and use both Team Manager and Meet Manager computer software systems.

16. Ability to use sound judgment and make quick decisions in sometimes stressful and/or challenging situations.

17. Keep accurate records of attendance and times.

18. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.

19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 18 years of age, high school graduate.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of experience in the area of competitive swimming / swim team.
  • Preferred current Lifeguard Training including Current CPR-PR/AED and First-aid.
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Approved Class upon hiring.
  • USA Swimming Foundations of Coaching – can be obtained upon hiring.
  • USA Swimming Athlete Protection – can be obtained upon hiring.
  • Concussion Training – can be obtained upon hiring.
  • Never been convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. The ability to react in an emergency calmly and effectively.
