TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 210 Days
FLSA Status: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Indiana Building Level Administrator License.
2. Successful experience as an elementary teacher or administrator.
3. Demonstrate the ability in instructional management, curriculum planning, staff development, supervision of instruction, and educational planning.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
5. Ability to communicate with all segments of the school and community.
6. Knowledge of federal and state funding, regulations, and laws.
7. Demonstrated leadership skills.
8. Research, organization, development, problem-solving, and planning skills required.
JOB GOAL & POSITION SUMMARY:
To administer all facets of the operation of Tipton Elementary School.
The elementary school assistant principal has general responsibilities including general school administration, instructional programs and services, personnel leadership and supervision, business and fiscal operations, school facilities management, pupil transportation, record keeping and reporting, and community relations.
FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assign duties and responsibilities of the school staff in accordance with the Board-staff members contract.
2. Implement the policies of the Board and the superintendent's directives and coordinate both with building level administrative procedures. Inform the staff of
the policies and/or directives when appropriate for an effectively administered building.
3. Assign, supervise, and evaluate all certified and non-certified personnel in curricular and/or extra-curricular assignments per the Board Policy and/or
established procedures.
4. Proficient in Universal Design for Learning, Professional Learning Communities, and Literacy Instruction.
5. Complete, maintain, and forward records and reports as directed by the State, Board of Education, principal or Superintendent that includes but is not
limited to:
a. Preparation and distribution of the faculty and student handbooks.
b. Conduct and record emergency drills and maintain the safety of the students according to school district policies and Indiana School Laws.
c. Submit a written report on all serious school accidents involving staff, visitors, and/or students enrolled in the school.
6. Interview and screen prospective staff members as directed by the Superintendent, and make appropriate recommendations to the Superintendent.
7. Administer the instructional program in the building, including: making appropriate recommendations to the principal and superintendent concerning
evaluation and revision of the curriculum.
8. Provide for supervision of students at curricular as well as extra-curricular activities.
9. Maintain safe, sanitary building conditions which are conducive to a good learning atmosphere. Make any necessary recommendations for improvements
to the Superintendent.
10. Maintain accurate accounting of all funds handled in connection with the schools' program.
a. Maintain an accurate inventory of furniture, books, and equipment.
b. Evaluate and forward teacher requisitions to the Central Office.
c. Assign appropriations to each department
11. Monitor and report on the overall student grade reporting system, attendance procedures, student promotions, and disciplinary policies.
12. Develop the means for continual review of the instructional programs for the purposes of:
a. updating materials, equipment and instructional techniques
b. attempting to provide each student with his appropriate curriculum.
13. Provide a climate conducive to quality education that includes positive relations with, and between, all personnel and students in the school, and between
the school and home/community.
14. Administer in-service training for school personnel pertaining to instructional practices, school procedures, policies, discipline, and operations of the school.
15. Explain, define, and interpret the school's needs and accomplishments to the community as needed.
16. Develop clearly identified instructional goals for the staff and students and for communicating these goals to the various publics.
17. Be visible and accessible to students, staff, and patrons.
18. Suggest and provide materials and methods by which to publicize and communicate the school’s programs to staff, students, patrons, and the community.
19. Establish a line of staff operation in terms of persons in charge of the school during the principal's absence.
20. Coordinate the administration of the testing program.
21. Participate in professional education organizations on the local, state, and national levels.
22. Perform other duties when requested by the Superintendent.
