Transportation, District Dept is Hiring a Support Services Supervisor Near Washington, DC

This position is located in the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Performance Administration, Support Services Division. The Support Services Supervisor is responsible for managing the agency's Facilities Branch, Fleet Branch, and Warehouse Branch.

The incumbent works under the direction of the Chief Performance Officer, who provides administrative direction in terms of broadly defined program objectives, missions, and functions. The employee and supervisor, in consultation, develop special projects, work assignments and deadlines. Employee is responsible for independently carrying out projects and program operations. Work is reviewed from the standpoint of the general level of service rendered, and overall efficiency of facilities. This position will require direct interaction with DDOT Senior Executives, the Executive Office of the Mayor and all ANC commissioners in the district on performance and strategic programmatic efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administers a comprehensive logistical support program to assure the efficient and successful completion of all activities associated with the DDOT support service program and the protection of its interests and requirements. Establishes long and-short-term goals and assures that essential services such as, utilities, security, and safety systems are available on a 24-hour, 7 -days a week basis.

Analyzes work requirements and determines staff resources, equipment, etc., needed to accomplish work assignments. Obtains necessary resources, defines, and schedules overall work to be accomplished. Provides a full range of supervisory services for subordinate staff. Makes staff selections, recommends promotions, provides performance ratings and standards and necessary training, approves/disapproves leave, initiates necessary disciplinary action, and assigns, adjusts, directs, and reviews staff work, as needed. Provides or ensures then provision of staff training necessary to keep staff abreast of the changes in governing and related regulatory, legislative matters, or agency matters which impact the performance of duties.

Oversees the management of administrative property through maintenance of records by conducting periodic inventories, maintenance of depreciation accounts and repair cost analyses, disposal of excess property, and obtaining releases from accountability for lost or stolen property. Directs the acquisition, assignment, and utilization of space within the Department, including design of office layouts and work areas.

Qualifications and Education

This position requires at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the person with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

At least five years previous work experience managing public space, operations, and staff is preferred.

Licenses and Certification

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions/Environment

The work is performed in an office setting, but there will be significant amounts of time spent outside.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service At-Will employment. All position and appointments in the MSS serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in a Collective Bargaining Unit.

Position Designation: This position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability - Security Sensitive. Accordingly, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment checks (criminal background checks, consumer credit check, traffic record checks, if applicable) as a condition of employment, and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of your tenure.

Emergency Designation: This position has been designated as an essential employee position under the provisions of District Personnel Manual Chapter 12. As such, your service maybe required in emergency situations to perform crucial duties, e.g., snow removal, debris removal, transportation, shelter operations, food distribution, and communication. These duties maybe performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early.

Residency Requirement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
