East Boston Central Catholic SchoolPURPOSE AND SCOPE:East Boston Central Catholic School is looking to hire an Assistant Principal who strives toachieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for day-to-day operation of theschool and its programs; provides leadership to the administrative team, faculty, staff, studentsand parents/guardians in developing academic excellence in the context of a Catholiccommunity; establishes positive school-community relationships; continues own professionaldevelopment; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Principal.General Description:Report directly to the Principal and assume supervision on behalf of in the absence of thePrincipal. At the discretion of the Principal, specific responsibilities and latitude of independentaction will vary, but the overall task will be to assist the Principal with the regular administrationof the rules and regulations of the school and provide leadership to the staff, which includes butis not limited to, formulation of policies, organizational plans, goals and objectives in order todevelop and maintain an educationally effective school of excellence.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assists the Principal and/or performs the duties of the Principal in the absence of thePrincipal: Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education: Embraces and models the Catholic philosophy of education. Promotes and lives gospel values and Catholic moral teaching. Ensures there are opportunities of faith development for students and staff to prepare them for life in today’s Church and society.Assists with the responsibility for day-to-day operation of the school and its programs: Oversees the budget in his areas of responsibility. Approves policies and procedures for academic regulations. Supervises all interscholastic athletics. Supervises safety inspections and building security. Distributes all keys. Oversees the compilation of student files and records. Acts upon recommendations for expulsion. Serves as a member of the admissions board and scholarship committee. Supervises the admissions and withdrawals of students. Oversees use of the public address system and all announcements. Approves field trips.Provides leadership to the administrative team, faculty, staff, students and parents/guardians in developing academic excellence in the context of a Catholic community: Recruits new faculty and staff. Directs the orientation of new faculty and staff. Recommends to the Principal the renewal/non-renewal of faculty. Directs the planning of the school calendar with the Principal. Evaluates requests from faculty for professional days. Supervises faculty/staff attendance. Supervises the office staff. Supervises the maintenance staff and the general cleaning of the building. Supervises the directors of athletics, campus ministry, counseling, library, technology services, admissions, and equity, and oversees their programs. Supervises the publishing of the Faculty and Staff handbook.Establishes positive school-community relationships: Maintains cooperative relations with all in the school community. Promotes respectful and positive school relationships. Attends and leads as needed school faculty meetings and professional development opportunities.Continues own professional development: Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities. Participates in professional activities and joins appropriate professional organizations. Maintains personal professional development records. Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Principal.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must hold a Bachelor's degree. Demonstrates a drive, commitment and sense of urgency that inspires others to achieve results. Strong belief that all students can succeed and a demonstrated commitment to making that become true. Critical thinker and problem-solver. Demonstrates persistence in overcoming and removing obstacles to goal achievement. Collaborative team player. Willingness to engage in frequent dialogue and to be self-reflective with regard to teaching practices. Commitment to analyzing student data to push student achievement forward. Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities and differentiate for those students with special needs and English Learners. Ability to attend VIRTUS training, and complete CORI and Fingerprint background checks.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must be able to stand forperiods of time outside in the heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usuallymoderate.
