JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Elementary Physical Education Teacher Grades K-4JOB SUMMARY: To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustments; to discover talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, ability, poise and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s in Physical Education 2. Valid NH Physical Education Teacher Certification 3. Experience working with young childrenREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONDesign, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on school district/state/national standardsMeasure student progress to encourage the mastery of school district/state/national standardsEncourage teamwork so as to set collective and personal development goalsEnsure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all studentsEnsure that the physical education environment is safe and constructive for all studentsTeach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, rhythms and movement, individual, dual & team sports and integrate health education into the daily curriculum, Communicate expectations to students & parents and work with them to ensure they are achieving personal goalsConsistently address the needs of individual studentsDemonstrate the use of proven, research-based strategies for effective classroom management, lesson planning, active student engagement, and instructional deliverySupport HHES shared vision and SMART goals.Ongoing daily responsibilities of physical education teachers will include:Employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that is consistent with the physical limitations, needs, and capabilities of individual students and/or groups of studentsGuiding students to maintain acceptable standards of classroom behaviorMaintain records of individual student achievement and assessing students on a continuous basisPreparing for classes and maintaining written evidence of preparationUpholding and enforcing school rules, school board policies, and administrative regulationsWorking with other members of the school faculty to plan, share and integrate instructional goals, objectives, and methodsAttend weekly PLC meetings with classroom teachers with the goal of including academic goals into the physical education curriculum and unit planning.Communicate with classroom teachers at all grade levels by attending weekly PLC meetings.Serve as a resource person for classroom teachersServe on the District Wellness CommitteeProvide maximum physical activity time within the class period. With maximum and quality activity time, children become more skilled, knowledgeable, and physically fit.Teach skills and activities that transfer into physical activity outside of Physical Education class. Skills learned in physical education class transfer to skills used in a child’s play. Students need skills to be successful participants in physical activity.Motivate children to be active. The physical educator is responsible for encouraging and motivating children to be active both in and out of school.Play a leadership role in the ongoing development of the school's physical education curriculum.
