Summary: The STEAM Innovation Teacher will administer and enhance a middle school STEAM program and a class environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth. This teacher must establish an effective rapport with student and motivate pupils to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for middle school education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability. The STEAM Innovation Teacher will work collaboratively with teachers in creating and supporting collaborative lessons, activities and opportunities for students to be exposed to STEAM related curricula.Duties and Responsibilities: 1.Establishes a positive co-teaching environment while working with classroom teachers in the STEAM classrooms2.Facilitates instruction within the STEAM classrooms and relevant innovation settings3.Manages the materials and resources4.Creates and teaches the assigned academic subject(s) to pupils in a classroom5.Promotes the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) concepts through experiential learning opportunities.6.Welcomes regional partners, foundation representatives, STEAM related businesses, and other visitors to the classroom to enhance our own STEAM program and share expertise with other educators7.Develops lesson plans and instructional materials which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil8.Fosters an inquiry-based approach to learning through project-based, real-world tasks9.Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction10.Collaborates with peers to write curricular units using the Understanding by Design framework and participates in associated training and professional development11.Utilizes multiple instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instructional practices for students12.Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional, safe learning atmosphere in the classroom13.Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports14.Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program15.Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems16.Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers 17.Maintains professional competences through self-selected professional growth activities.18.Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records19.Utilizes data to make instructional decisions20.Participates in curriculum development programs as required21.Any other duties as assigned by the PrincipalREPORTS TO:Middle School PrincipalCOMPENSATION:In accordance with the Dracut Teachers’ Association ContractWORK YEAR:182-Day School Year
