City of Blackfoot is Hiring a PARKS/REC GROUNDS Maint (Mowing) – SEASONAL/PT Near Blackfoot, ID

Position Summary

The primary function of an employee in this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and service work on City park and golf course grounds and buildings, including equipment, machinery, irrigation systems, and playground structures. Additional duties include soil and plant cultivation, cleanup duties and public restroom cleaning and maintenance. The position is seasonal and work is performed under the direct supervision of the Golf Foreman or Parks & Recreation Supervisor. An employee in this position may be assigned to other duties in the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. The principal duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment that may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, heavy equipment and exposure to hazardous and allergenic materials. The working hours vary and may include weekends, evenings and holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and repair work on restrooms, playground equipment, and picnic areas;
  • Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, and application of herbicides and fertilizers;
  • Performs general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal;
  • Maintains and cleans public restroom facilities;
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs benches, picnic tables, receptacles, playground structures, and signs;
  • Maintains park settings, trees, playgrounds, and other planting areas;
  • Assists with tree planting, trimming, pruning, and removal;
  • Maintains and repairs motorized, mechanical and grounds keeping equipment;
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and repair of automated irrigation systems;
  • Provides facility and equipment security; repairs vandalism and other damage;
  • Assists during construction projects;
  • Provides information and answers inquiries from the public;
  • Sets up for reservations and special events;
  • Maintains compliance with Federal, State, County, City and other applicable public health, environmental and safety standards;
  • Performs other related duties as required;

Specialized Knowledge

  • Basic grounds maintenance skills, including but not limited to, mowing, planting, pruning, irrigation, and fertilization;
  • Botany, horticulture, tree identification, turf and/or pest control;
  • Applicable regulations and policies regarding safe work practices

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency is required, and some experience in equipment operation or general labor tasks is preferred; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work;
  • Valid Idaho driver’s license;
  • Accurately follow written and oral instructions;
  • Accurately read and interpret technical and operational manuals and diagrams and maintain accurate records, logs and documentation;
  • Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, grounds keeping equipment, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, backhoe and tractor, and related equipment;
  • Operate power equipment and hand tools;
  • Operate a motor vehicle, including a dump truck and front end loader;
  • Operate, adjust, and monitor automated sprinkler control systems;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the public and other employees;

Essential Physical Abilities

Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing, manual dexterity and personal mobility and stamina, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to:

  • discern verbal instructions, communicate with other employees and the public, and discern warning or emergency alarms, including vehicle backup warnings;
  • comprehend written work instructions and work orders, technical and operational documents and diagrams, and read and record meters and gauges;
  • operate a variety of power and hand tools, including specialized meter reading devices, and to making adjustments to equipment;
  • frequently lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds, and work in an outdoor field environment

Sufficient visual acuity required by this job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
