Bushel Boy Farms is looking for a Packhouse Machine Operator for our indoor greenhouse in Mason City, Iowa.

At Bushel Boy Farms, our talented team grows the best tasting fruits and vegetables, providing consumers across the Midwest with high-quality, locally grown, fresh produce all year long. Bushel Boy Farms is looking for a Machine Operator to come join our facility located in Mason City!

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates packhouse equipment daily; sets up, tears down, and operates box maker to provide a steady supply of boxes for production needs and to keep product moving through the packhouse.
  • Performs basic maintenance duties to keep the box maker running, such as tightening, lubricating, cleaning, and making adjustments.
  • Follows procedures and understands the lock out / tag out process.
  • Keeps supplies such as box pallets and glue readily available and proactively notifies Packhouse Manager of inventory needs or quality issues.
  • Handles produce carefully to prevent bruising or damage to the product.
  • Performs production activities such as inspecting, sorting, packaging, weighing, and lifting produce.
  • Reports defective product or questionable conditions of the product to manager, supervisor, and team leader.
  • Maintains a clean work area and ensures equipment is clean and in good working condition. Cleans and sanitizes the packhouse at the end of the shift.
  • Identifies safety concerns and proactively communicates them to manager and supervisor.
  • Adheres to Bushel Boy Farms personal hygiene standards and follows all food safety, occupational health and safety, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Performs repetitive tasks at a consistent pace to meet productivity and quality expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous experience working with produce or greenhouse/warehouse environment preferred.

  • Ability to identify color, normal depth perception, and ability to understand produce grade standards and maturity characteristics.
  • Displays initiative to work as a team member and as an individual.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic visual quality inspections on products.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Regularly stand and walk on a concrete surface for long periods of time (8 hours).
  • Work in a greenhouse environment with variable and fluctuating temperatures or in the packhouse where temperatures may be between 54°F to 65°F.
  • Work on and around powered industrial equipment and background noise in a fast-paced environment.
  • Regularly perform repetitive motions including frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling of parts and part containers, pinching, gripping, and grasping.
  • Use hands or fingers to handle or feel.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs (more than 40 lbs requires a team lift).
  • Potential exposure to bumblebees including possible (but rare) stings. Must be comfortable working around bees and not be allergic to bee stings.
