What is Boston Prep?

Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2023-2024, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As a High School Director of Operations…

You will work as a member of the Operations team at Boston Prep. You will lead with a vision for operations, allowing teachers to focus on teaching and students to focus on learning. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the High School Director of Operations will design and implement systems that support the daily and annual operations, which will strengthen the school’s mission.

Embodying a growth mindset for themselves and the team, and with a focus on operations as customer service, a successful Director of Operations will build clear, well-implemented systems that support teachers to deliver effective student learning. Key responsibilities for this role include:

Leadership

  • Manage and support professional development of 4-6 Operations Team Members, including Operations Manager, Operations Data Associate and two Front Desk team members
  • Model the Boston Prep commitments to students, faculty and families

High School Director of Operations is responsible for the following in their schools (Grades 9 - 12)Facilities

  • Support facility management including weekly and monthly facilities walk-throughs to ensure that facilities are up to Boston Prep standards of excellence and management of facilities team
  • Ensure that the physical space is ready for teachers at the beginning of every school day, week, and year, including summer set up of classrooms and office spaces
  • Execute on overall facility mapping and readiness for the school year, including furniture procurement and placement

Systems

  • Support the creation and maintenance school’s schedule, rosters and attendance system; create modified schedules for special events; assign and attend duties for One Team
  • Routinely observe school spaces to ensure that students are meeting expectations and duties and spaces are facilitated appropriately, including transitions and after school time

Attendance

  • Oversee attendance systems and accountability
  • Ensure that daily attendance achieves the school-wide school year goal

Project Management

  • Oversee, plan, maintain and implement school-based annual projects, traditions and events
  • Prepare the school annually for orientation and new school year launch
  • Plan specific field trips, ensure all field trips are compliant with our protocols and process

High School Director of Operations will be responsible for the following spanning Grades 6 - 12

  • Food Service: Work with Operations Manager to oversee food vendor FreshPicks, nutrition requirements, breakfast and lunch programming and meal duties
  • Assessment: Work with Operations Manager and Director of Academic Projects to collaborate on all testing, including ACCESS ELD testing, MCAS state testing, Semester Final Exams and College Board tests. This includes rostering, modified schedules, proctor training, proctoring etc.
  • Coverage: Supervise Operations Data Associate to oversee processes for Coverage and PTO
  • Emergency Procedures: Oversee, plan and implement all emergency procedures for the high school, including emergency response team, fire drills, active shooter trainings and stay put, in collaboration with COO and Operations Team

A successful candidate

  • Has experience with Office Suite programs, Google Suite programs and parallel educational programs; Excel proficiency is required for this role.
  • Has excellent written communication, strong organizational and time management skills
  • Has a proven track record in management of a team and direct reports
  • Learns quickly and can implement feedback immediately
  • Is professional, responsive and attentive even under pressure
  • Demonstrates self awareness: understands their limits and biases and knows when to seek other perspectives
  • Is able to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment that may be unpredictable at times
  • Practices humility, strong work ethic and a can do attitude

Qualifications:

  • You have a strong commitment towards supporting students in persisting in college and demonstrating personal ethical growth throughout their time with us.
  • You’ve earned a Bachelor's degree and gone on to gain at least 3 years of experience in the education, non-profit or business sector, with preference given to candidates with prior teaching experiences in K-12 schools
  • You have experience in project management and team management.
  • You are proficient in Haitian Kreyol, Spanish, or Cape Verdean Creole. This is preferred, but not required
