Licensing and Copyright Manager for Music Publishing Company

Educational/Classical music publisher seeks an individual to manage the Licensing and Copyright Department. This is a full-time position based in the Carl Fischer office in NYC. We are looking for a highly motivated, articulate, imaginative, detail-oriented self-starter to serve as a Licensing and Copyright Manager. You must be comfortable with and experienced in negotiating large licensing permissions and formulating contracts for various deals as well as conversant in various royalty types for music publishing. This role will work with all departments to facilitate license administration. The responsibilities include:

  • Managing all licensing requests, composer contracts, and copyright issues.
  • Negotiating and executing synchronization, print, grand rights, performance, and other miscellaneous licenses
  • Assisting executives to negotiate contracts and agreements for partnerships and other legal matters.
  • Analyzing and developing licensing revenue sources.
  • Managing the maintenance and use of in-house licensing and contract databases.
  • Working with editorial and production departments for composer services
  • Assisting in all aspects of music publishing business to ensure compliance
  • Tracking outstanding license fees.
  • Resolving copyright infringements and other legal issues.
  • Establishing and maintaining the annual departmental budget.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree required. Masters degree a plus, especially in legal or intellectual property areas.
  • 5 years experience in music or related licensing, rights & clearances, or business affairs. Music or book publishing experience a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with copyright and licensing issues and contracts. Strong contract-drafting, negotiating, and reasoning skills.
  • Music background or knowledge a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize heavy work flow and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Experience with personnel and budget management.

Compensation will depend upon prior experience. Excellent benefits package offered after 3 months of full-time employment.
