Career Opportunity:
We are seeking a full-time gardening teacher for grades first through twelfth. The gardening teacher is responsible for the class curriculum that includes guiding the children through composting, soil preparation, planting, harvesting, and cooking. Daily schedule includes teaching two to three, 45 minute classes daily with lesson planning and garden caretaking in between. This position oversees the ongoing maintenance of the garden during the school year and over the summer. This is a well respected and extremely important position within our school.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have either a four-year undergraduate degree or significant experience in gardening, working with children, and cooking what comes from the garden. Ongoing professional development may be necessary if the candidate does not already possess understanding and application of Waldorf pedagogy, biodynamic experience, natural crafts, and culinary skills in preparing and cooking what is grown.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be trained in biodynamics, permaculture and or interested in Waldorf education and its integration into the gardening program. All roles within the school community require strong communication, problem-solving skills, excellent follow-through, organizational skills and good rapport with the students.
Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation is within the range of a teaching position in Highlands County Florida. Salary is dependent upon experience and capabilities. There are no healthcare benefits. If candidate has children, the tuition is covered by state scholarship. The only out of pocket expense for the candidate’s children is enrollment and material fees.
