YMCA OF THE PINES

Job Title: Preschool Director

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Year-Round, Exempt

Reports to: Executive Director of School Age Child Care

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is part of a partnership between the YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District. The Preschool Director (“Director”) will be responsible for adhering to all training and instructional requirements of the Medford School District, the Department of Education (DOE), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The Director will be responsible for all aspects of the Preschool Program, as well as the before and after care program, School’s Out, at both the YMCA of the Pines and the Medford Memorial School locations. Additionally, the director will be responsible for staffing and planning activities for the preschool age group for approximately 10 School’s Out at Camp days throughout the year. Responsibilities include program development, staff relations, risk management, customer/community relations, licensing/professional accreditation, hiring, staff training, fundraising, marketing and budget development. The position will fall under the general supervision of the YMCA of the Pines’ Executive Director of School Age Child Care, but will also be monitored and supported by instructional, administrative, and support staff from within the Medford School District.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in any field related to children or business

-OR-

Bachelor’s Degree and one year of managerial or supervisory experience

First Aid and CPR certification (provided as needed)

Ability to pass multiple background checks, including NJ mandated CARI and CHRI

Additional experience in child care or preschool is preferred. Experience in budget development/monitoring and marketing is necessary. This position also requires communication, program evaluation, statistical analysis, organization, computer and planning skills, as well as relational skills, integrity, flexibility, the ability to focus in the midst of commotion, and a proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:

· 1303 Stokes Road, Medford, NJ, 55 Mill Street, Medford, NJ

· Attendance at various evening events throughout the year

· On-call support for School’s Out program 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Track program budget and expenses to meet fiscal objectives.

2. With the support of the Executive Director of School Age Child Care and the Director of School Age Child Care, supervise and administer all aspects of the Preschool and School’s Out programs at YMCA of the Pines and Medford Memorial School, including staff recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation; enrollment registration; community and parent relations; marketing; and budget planning and management.

3. Ensure program compliance with the Department of Children and Families and Department of Education.

4. Support and actively participate in implementing the organization’s strategic priorities with aspects of the strategic plan that directly affect or involve preschool and SACC and support other departments with implementation of the strategic plan when not related to SACC, but is otherwise feasible.

5. Develop standardized curriculum components for the before and after school programs and holiday/vacation days at camp.

6. Hold monthly staff meetings and training, or support and participate in school district professional development as appropriate.

7. Maintain close working relationships with Medford School District staff and administration.

8. Develop and maintain a functional parent handbook and staff manual.

9. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

10. Develop and maintain a culture and emphasis on first-class customer service with the staff. Respond to user, parent, and/or customer complaints, questions, issues, or inquiries promptly.

11. Assess program for risk and loss management issues and complete all incident reports within 24 hours of incident occurrence.

12. Locate applicable grants for funding and expanding services and participate in and support other organization fundraising activities.

13. Attend YMCA of the USA, NJSACC and/or other professional conferences and trainings, and maintain regular contact with these and other professional organizations in the field of child care.

14. Maintain developmental assets and core values emphasis in all programs.

15. Maintain and expand training skills and credentials for the benefit of the organization as a whole, School’s Out and the YMCA Movement.

16. Cross-support other departments as needed: Day Camp, Resident Camp, Outdoor Center, Facilities, Food Service, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours and school holiday requirements.

2. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

3. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

4. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.

5. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

6. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

7. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

8. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

9. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

11. Ability to withstand heat and/or cold weather conditions for periods of time.

BENEFITS:

1. 12% Retirement – The organization pays the equivalent of to the YMCA retirement fund. No match is required. To be eligible, employees must complete 1,000 hours of service during two 12-month periods, beginning with their date of hire or anniversary date. The two years do not have to be consecutive. Time employed at other YMCAs is counted towards meeting eligibility.

2. Free Programs – Free access to all YMCA of the Pines programs, including summer camp and School Age Child Care (School’s Out) if your child attends school in one of the districts we serve.

3. YMCA Membership – Employees receive a free YMCA Membership that can be used at any YMCA in the country with the National Reciprocity program.

4. Health Care – Options to purchase medical, dental, and vision coverage. For employees electing the YMCA health insurance, the YMCA pays 75% of the cost of the employee’s insurance. We also contribute to the employees’ Health Savings Account (HSA).

5. Long-term disability and life insurance is provided at no cost to full-time employees.

6. PTO begins accruing from day one, and includes 18 days from year one, plus 8 floating holidays.
