**POSITION SUMMARY: **The Paint Shop Apprentice’s job is to assist in all areas of the painting trade, including applying primer coats, finish coats using a range of different application methods and products. The apprentice will assist in the repair, preparation and cleaning of materials to ensure they are ready to receive different types of finishes.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to understand requirements for paint /finish work to be completed. Under the direction of the Paint Shop Lead, follow instructions and process to complete jobs on time and to defined quality standards.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES: **

• **Paint preparation duties **- Use of DA Sanders and appropriate grit types to prepare materials.

  • Understanding Block Sanding
  • Correctly prep, clean and mask parts and surfaces
  • Experience using Bondo and Putty to prepare and repair parts.

• **Painter/ Finisher duties **- Product selection (using correct product per substrate and requirements)

  • Under the direction of the Lead, assist in Color matching, mixing paint and colors.
  • Under the direction of the Lead, work with wood stains and lacquers.
  • Learn setting up all needed equipment: Pressure pots, spray guns.
  • Learn correct spraying techniques to ensure proper coverage on all parts.
  • Understanding full set up of drying oven and setting it appropriately per finish
  • QC all finish work through each stage of process and spotting any defects, including fish eyes or runs.
  • Rework and correct errors as needed.

• **Housekeeping duties: **- Maintain equipment and use gun cleaning procedures

  • Keep work area, mixing room and paint booths to standard

• Regular attendance is required.

• Other duties as assigned by manager.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Experience with AAA pump spray systems, HVLP gravity spray guns, diaphragm systems a plus.
• Experience with TDS Sheets a plus
• Experience with Cabinet Finishing a plus
• Experience with Automotive shop painting a plus.
