Who We Are & What We Do

The Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) is a small non-profit organization, making a large impact on the lives of students of color in the Greater Pittsburgh area. FAME was established over 30 years ago to provide need-based scholarships to bright and talented African American students, making a high-quality independent school education possible. FAME also provides its Scholars with an array of supplemental support including tutoring, internships, academic enrichment programs, leadership development, and career awareness workshops.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced educator, school administrator, or out-of-school-time program leader to join our team as the FAME Academy Program Director. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education, program management, and a passion for promoting educational equity. The ideal candidate must also have a natural ability to build lasting relationships with students, families, partners, and schools. The Program Director will oversee the growth, development, implementation, and evaluation of an outstanding academic enrichment program. 

Essential Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of FAME Academy programs, while serving as an effective, collaborative leader who has the ability to work with colleagues to build cohesion and set clear expectations.
  • Design, plan, and implement a comprehensive and engaging FAME Academy program, including strategic program development, and establish plans for venues, transportation, etc. 
  • Recruit, train and manage teachers, program assistants, and other seasonal staff.
  • Foster a growth oriented, positive, and encouraging environment while keeping staff accountable to organizations policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Create lasting partnerships and establish communication protocols with parents, students, home schools, and administrators to increase awareness and engagement in FAME Academy.
  • Provide executive leadership and industry expertise necessary for defining, building, and delivering on FAME’s growth and expansion strategy.
  • Prepare accurate and timely FAME Academy Program reports for fall, spring, and summer.
  • Identify and provide recommendations for program improvement both independently and during FAME’s collaborative Strategic Planning process.
  • Plan and oversee the execution of an exciting, memorable graduation ceremony for 8th grade students completing the FAME Academy program.

Compensation and Work Schedule: 

  • $55,000 to $60,000
  • Tuesday - Saturday during the school year (September – May)
  • Monday - Friday during the summer (June – August)

Experience/Education Requirement: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational arena or youth development is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in program management and supervision.
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Passion for youth and commitment to educational equity.
  • Proven track record of achieving goals and understanding of strategic development.
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong event planning skills and ability to demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, motivated, and flexible. Able to effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities and maintain professional composure.
  • Ease working within a team, leading and following.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and the ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, PA Act 33/34 Clearances.
