JOB DESCRIPTION: CAMP DIRECTOR

DEPARTMENT: Programs

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Staff, Volunteers, Youth Participants

FLSA: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Hope for Harvest Youth Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced Camp Director to lead our exciting and enriching summer camp program. The Camp Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the summer camp, including program development, staff management, camper engagement, safety protocols, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with youth, possess strong leadership skills, and have previous experience in camp management or a related field

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, social work, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in camp administration, youth programming, or a similar role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse staff, campers, families, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, youth engagement strategies, and best practices in camp management.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Pass a background check and adhere to all applicable licensing requirements.

Program Implementation:

  • Implement a diverse and engaging summer camp program that aligns with the mission and values of Hope for Harvest Youth Center.
  • Develop daily schedules, activities, and themes that cater to the interests and needs of campers.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to incorporate educational, recreational, and cultural experiences into the camp curriculum.

Staff Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise camp counselors, activity specialists, and support staff.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and feedback to staff members to ensure a positive and inclusive camp environment.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, training sessions, and evaluations to promote professional development and teamwork.

Camper Engagement:

  • Foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where campers feel safe, valued, and encouraged to participate.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and conflict resolution techniques to address any challenges that may arise.
  • Facilitate team-building activities, group discussions, and reflection exercises to promote social-emotional learning and character development.

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols, emergency procedures, and health guidelines in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and activity areas to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure that all staff members are trained and certified in first aid, CPR, and other relevant safety procedures.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Manage camp budget, expenses, and resources in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of camper registrations, attendance, medical information, and incident reports.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding camp updates, policies, and procedures via newsletters, emails, and meetings.

TIME COMMITMENT

This is a leadership position with a time commitment of 40 hours per week,

The position will run June 10th to August 16th with Campers on site June 17th to August 9th

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • June 10th to August 16th
  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM are general business hours
  • Willingness and flexibility to work after business hours and on weekends as required.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee will work in office, camp, and warehouse environments, and is required to work predominantly sitting, standing, walking, bending, carrying, and lifting. The employee will be required to work outside and inside, work around youth, and in community environments.
  • Local travel is required.
