Jefferson State Community College is Hiring a Website Developer Near Birmingham, AL

Position Summary

Salary: $50,000.00 to $75,000.00 based on ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule C-3 and experience

The Website Developer at Jefferson State Community College is responsible for managing website maintenance and leading the effort to develop new website features. This position collaborates with a wide range of college personnel to implement content reorganization and develop key website features.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to consider web-based initiatives that promote the school’s digital agenda and drive user engagement from requirements through to release and measurement.
  • Oversee resourcing, cost/time estimation and task management of contributing designers, copywriters and web developers involved in carrying out website requests.
  • Establish and maintain necessary relationships with Analytics, SEO and digital marketing partners to stay familiar with key reporting metrics and real-time customer insights that will be used to inform future web priorities.
  • Design and create responsive and adaptive website layouts/user interfaces ensuring strong optimization and functionality.
  • Manage and document third party vendor relationships for services used by the site for payment processing, class registration, student portals, etc. and remain current in comparable offerings from alternative providers.
  • Commission and organize documentation necessary for contributing site editors and web developers.
  • Ensure appropriate site monitoring tools are in place and resources are available to respond promptly to site outages or errors.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the school’s in-house IT team and contracted hosting vendor for all web-related issues.
  • Implement front-end web requests on an as-needed basis e.g., copy/content changes, image changes, design requests, etc.
  • Integrate data from various back-end services and databases.
  • Create and maintain software documentation.
  • Maintain, expand, and scale websites as needed.
  • Assist Community and Media Relations Staff.
  • Maintain effective, professional relationships with other offices on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A bachelor's degree in web development, computer science, or related field is preferred.
Experience: At least three years of full-time related experience as a Web Project Manager, Digital Account Lead, Senior Web Developer or related role required.
Licenses: No special licenses required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven work experience in web programming and development
  • Strong proficiency with numerous web development languages
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and manage time efficiently
  • Solution-oriented and high-level programming skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, and optimize web pages for security and responsiveness
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools
  • Experience translating conceptual goals into specific user stories to guide architecture and design
  • Ability to moderate requests from a variety of potentially conflicting directions and push toward consensus
  • Understand current web trends and emerging technologies
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other Web CMS platforms
  • Competency with visual and interaction design applications (Adobe, Figma, Sketch, etc.)
  • Experience working with data analytics display and dashboard tools such as Google Analytics, Tableau, etc.
