Seasonal Maintenance Workers for Urbans Farms, Community Gardens and Nature Preserves

Job Description:

Gather New Haven is seeking dedicated and experienced Seasonal Maintenance Workers to join our team. This role involves hands-on work maintaining and enhancing our community gardens and nature preserves and support on our urban Farms. The ideal candidate will have experience with landscaping and light carpentry, specifically in building and repairing garden beds, as well as a passion for environmental stewardship.

Hours: Part-Time and Full-Time available

Salary: $20 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Garden Bed Construction and Repair: Build, repair, and maintain wooden garden beds, ensuring they are safe and functional.

• General Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks including mowing, weed whacking, weeding, watering, mulching, and planting.

• Trail Maintenance: Clear and maintain walking paths and trails within the nature preserves.

• Infrastructure Upkeep: Assist with the upkeep of garden structures such as fences, trellises, and tool sheds.

• Community Engagement: Interact with community gardeners and volunteers, providing assistance and guidance as needed.

• Equipment Management: Maintain and care for gardening tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Proven experience in light carpentry, particularly in building and repairing garden beds. General maintenance experience preferred.

• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.

• Skills: Basic knowledge of gardening and landscaping practices as well as the maintenance and light repair of tools needed to perform this job. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

• Communication: Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of volunteers and community members.

• Dependability: Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

• Flexibility: Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
