NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible clerical work involving the application of specialized knowledge of procedures, records, regulations, and statutes relating to the Recorder/Registrar of Titles Office requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Work involves responsibility for varied technical and clerical duties pertaining to the area of assignment. Work is performed in accordance with established laws, regulations, policies and procedures relating to functions of the office. This classification normally includes specific responsibilities for distinct functions within the area of specialization or it may include serving as a resource for other personnel. Work is performed under direct supervision of the County Recorder and will assist other staff in all clerical and technical areas as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
As a Deputy Recorder, this position is responsible for providing extensive professional customer service in person and by phone. Performs office duties, including data entry, mailing, faxing and filing.
Serves the public by accurately and efficiently creating, issuing, processing and preserving official records for posterity and legal purposes. Those types of records include but are not limited to: real estate, tax liens, marriage, ordination, notary and various miscellaneous document types. Performs the duties of a Passport Acceptance Agent. Performs other duties as required.
Responsible to observe all Watonwan County safety and health rules and to apply the principles of accident prevention in day-to-day duties.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Requires clerical and public contact/customer service experience or training. Preference given for post-secondary education or work experience in Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Real Estate and/or legal descriptions. Must be a US Citizen to work with Passports.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Requires proficient clerical skills, including computer use, keyboarding and filing. Ability to learn specialized policies, regulations, statutes, procedures and practices. The position is responsible for processing and preserving legal documents pertaining to real estate, marriages, ordination/credentials, notary, and US passports. Requires accessing multiple computer websites, proficient math skills, and ability to draw out legal descriptions.
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to work independently or with a group and under minimal supervision.
Ability to see, sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, crouch, exerting force, and lift up to 30 pounds.
