Wacousta Cooperative Preschool is Hiring a Teacher Assistant, Preschool, GSRP, Full-Time, Part-Time, Tuition-based Near Eagle, MI

PERSONNEL VACANCY

Wacousta Cooperative Preschool will accept applications from qualified candidates for the following position:

Position Title

  • Preschool Assistant Teacher

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 8:45 AM-4:30 PM
  • Job runs August-June

Pay Scale

  • Based on experience and qualifications
  • Subject to Board approval

Reports to

  • Assistant Teachers report directly to the Director of WCP but are also supervised by the Lead Teacher in their assigned classroom.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
  • OR Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
  • Experience working with preschool children.
  • Knowledge of LARA Licensing Requirements

Requirements for Employment

  • T.B. Test at hire date as required by the State of Michigan for licensing.
  • Fingerprinted for background check from Central Registry
  • At least 24 hours of annual training in accordance with standards set by Great Start to Quality and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. (LARA requires a minimum of 16 hours.)
  • First Aid, CPR Certification, and Health and Safety training through MiRegistry (before applicant starts work)
  • MiRegistry account and membership

Job Skills

  • Passion for Early Childhood Education
  • Proven experience working in an early childhood environment.
  • Exceptional understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms in accordance with LARA licensing rules
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills
  • Ability to function as mediator between children.
  • Cool-tempered, friendly, and dependable
  • Balance between an inventive mind and a practical focus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Lead Teachers, Director, and other Assistant Teachers

JOB DUTIES

  • Maintain a professional attitude and conduct oneself as a professional at all times while representing Wacousta Cooperative Preschool.
  • Uphold the Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and the Code of Ethical Conduct as set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
  • Be familiar with and abide by all rules and regulations as laid out by the Childcare division of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, set up & clean up days, and required school events.
  • Support Lead Teacher in developing a learning environment suitable for preschool children.
  • Minimum 32 hrs of annual training in a child related field of development. (To be organized by Director)
  • Support the Lead Teacher in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate lessons that meet the guidelines set forth by the Preschool Director in accordance with the State of Michigan’s Standards for Early Childhood Education.
  • Support a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, inquiry etc.) to facilitate the education of children.
  • Observe each child to help improve social competencies and build self-esteem.
  • Encourage children to interact with each other and help children learn how to resolve occasional conflicts independently.
  • Assist in guiding children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers, or colors, develop fine and gross motor skills, etc.)

  • Help the Lead Teacher to organize rest, lunch, and snacks as appropriate.
  • Maintain the age-appropriate child to adult ratio as is required by LARA
  • Help make observations to assist Lead in tracking children’s progress.
  • Collaborate with other educators within and without of Wacousta Cooperative Preschool to develop professional skills.
  • Assist in the identification of students who may need additional support developmentally, socially, and academically and communicate observations with the Lead Teacher
  • Work to develop meaningful relationships with all students and their families.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly classroom space that always meets the developmental needs of all students.
  • The Lead Teacher within the assigned classroom is the direct supervisor, but all staff reports to the Director

Compensation

  • Salary subject to board approval and based upon qualifications
