Position Description

DEPARTMENT: Seneca District Services

POSITION TITLE: Interlibrary Loan Specialist

SUMMARY: Manages interlibrary loan service to the Seneca District Libraries and the interlibrary loan operation for the Warren Public Library.

QUALIFICATIONS: An associate degree or two years (minimum)
experience in an automated library, including familiarity with use of
computers. Experience in library resources and experience in research and
marketing methods preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong public service orientation and interpersonal skills; attention and devotion to accuracy of detail in everyday work performance is critical. Skills to navigate web-based platforms, perform online database searching, and to utilize MS Office especially the creation of spreadsheets. Knowledge of and familiarity
with library organization and general operating procedures plus knowledge of
library collection and reference tools, preferred.

REPORTS TO: District Consultant Librarian and Warren Library Association Executive Director

HOURS: Part-time position (15 hours per week)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise the borrowing and lending of library materials for the Seneca District
Libraries and Warren Public Library.

Process and ship Interlibrary Loan 2-3 times per week based on volume of requests.

Call patrons and let them know holds are ready for pickup and be available for
troubleshooting patron ILL needs.

Work with Technical Services Manager and Consultant to determine purchases that need
to be made to better leverage ILL costs.

Ensure that the department knows and works according to ALA interlibrary loan
standards, Pennsylvania Interlibrary Loan Manual, HSLC procedures, the
Pennsylvania Library Code, all reciprocal agreements, and the copyright laws.

Keep monthly and annual statistics of interlibrary loan service. Prepare statistical
and narrative reports for the Office of Commonwealth Libraries Public Library
Data Collection Report, Seneca District annual report and others as needed.

Maintain IDS package count and and represent the Seneca District at IDS meetings as
necessary.

Assist the District Consultant in education of district directors and/or support staff

Provide individual and group interlibrary loan support to the Seneca District libraries
as needed.

Create trainings on relevant topics as needs arise.

Attend all relevant district meetings.

Must attend District Negotiated Agreement.

Responsible for taking notes/minutes at the agreement for the District Consultant.

Recommend to consultant any professional development resources viewed in professional
journals, associations, etc. that may benefit the district directors.

Cooperate with the Library Director and with other staff in decision-making, and carrying
out the direction of the Board of Directors at the Warren Public Library.

Attend and participate in All Staff meetings; participate in appropriate continuing
education opportunities as required.

Apply and enforce the Library’s Behavior Code as needed.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. The selected candidate will be pre-employment required to obtain, at their own
expense, 3 forms of clearance, including PA State Police Criminal History
Record Check; PA Child Abuse History; and FBI Criminal History Background Check
including finger printing. If all clearances pass, the library will reimburse
your fees after 6 months of employment.

2. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.

i. While performing the
duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly
required to speak and hear at a conversational level, use hands to handle
objects, stand or sit for long periods of time, lift and/or move up to 10
pounds, reach, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is frequently required to
lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and traverse stairs. Occasionally, the
employee is required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
