Journeyman Lineperson

This position will be responsible and accountable for the completion of in-field transmission line jobs, both maintenance, and construction.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Able to climb wood and steel structure and work from a bucket truck.
  • Able to operate digger truck and other related equipment.
  • Successfully complete Lineman Red Tag Certification.
  • Complete any internal line training program.
  • Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of Electrical Transmission lines.
  • Able to read and understand drawings, schematics, and operating instructions and manuals relating to transmission equipment.
  • Safety and Environmental knowledge.
  • Able to work and retain access to all ITC assets, including but not limited to substations, ROW’s, facilities, vehicles and equipment.
  • Work within all applicable safety rules.
  • Drives for an extended period of time to and from the job site.
  • Must be competent with power and hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be available during off-duty hours.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Must be able to work in energized substations and power plants containing voltages up to and including 345,000 volts.
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience as a journeyman line technician.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) required.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (up to 10%): squatting, crawling, climbing stairs
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, body twisting, sense of touch, climbing poles, reading, color vision, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, balancing, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66 %): standing, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing distant, climbing on/off truck, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, range of motion, depth perception, lifting, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): seeing, hearing-speech range

Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

  • Must work in close proximity of energized electrical equipment up to 345,000 volts.
  • Exposed to static and induced voltages.
  • Exposed to Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF).
  • May be exposed to Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Frequency.
  • Works around hazardous equipment.
  • Works with energized parts or equipment.
  • May be subjected to high intensity and stressful situations.
  • Work in all temperatures (cold, snow, ice, wind, rain, heat).
  • Exposed to traffic and mobile equipment.
  • Works on construction sites with uneven terrain.
  • May be exposed to nature, i.e. irritating plants and biting or stinging insects.
