About the Role
The Production Manager is responsible for managing operational activities and performance for one or more segment(s) within Teel. The Production Manager provides leadership to the entire production team including all exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for all operating activities of the department.
  • Is a leader of safety with strong safety knowledge and is a “champion of behavior” in safety leadership
  • Supports a 5S, housekeeping, and visual management systems on the shop floor.
  • Establishes an operating system that supports efficient, smart use of resources including scheduling, shift structure, staffing, and asset utilization for safe and high-quality operations.
  • Oversees the daily execution of the production schedule and operates the department on budget.
  • Works to support personnel to establish company strategies, policies & procedures to support the meet company goals and objectives.
  • Guides operations planning in establishing schedules that make the best use of Teel’s resources, including staffing, equipment, materials, and maintenance.
  • Informs and advises the commercial team regarding capacity.
  • Collaborates with procurement and operations planning and other departments to ensure resources are in place.
  • Supports budgeting and financial forecasts will align with engineering on BOM requirements and product realization, and will oversee and be responsible for the daily manufacturing activities.
  • Contributes to annual company budget development and planning including direct input to needs for equipment, materials, staffing, labor, MOR and supplies, transportation, use of space, and any other resource needs.
  • Presence on the manufacturing floor at least 20% of the time driving manufacturing best practices across the department, with focus on safety leadership.
  • Leads people effectively, including managing, mentoring, and coaching where appropriate.
  • Managing well with focus on goal setting, performance management, problem solving, execution, and communication
  • Mentoring with focus on teaching new skills to team members
  • Coaching the right people in the right circumstances, challenging, inspiring, empowering, caring, valuing, and helping team members achieve their best
  • Identifies improvement opportunities through financial and production data and create action plans.
  • Supports training plans and training resource needs for all employees.
  • Builds the team and organization, supports staffing decisions and participates in the interview process as necessary.
  • Oversees the process of identifying and completing corrective actions on time & on budget.
  • Ensures product is delivered on time and within BOM allotments at quality levels expected by our customers.
  • Determines CAPEX and capacity needs and makes recommendations to the business.
  • Leads and participates within LEAN improvement teams and initiatives.
  • Oversees the creation and posting of visual manufacturing metrics and performance.
  • Work with the team to identify wastes in the system: material, movement, time, etc according to lean principles
  • Participates in MRB / NCM meetings and provides additional feedback on recommended solutions.
  • Additional projects as assigned by supervisor.
What You Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study or commensurate years of experience, advanced degree a plus.
  • 5 or more years of experience successfully supervision and coaching employees in a manufacturing or production environment required.
  • Leadership, change management and driving performance metrics in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience in team building, problem solving, and strong communication skills is critical.
  • Formalized training and certification withing LEAN/Six-Sigma preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written) with ability to create strong relationships.
