Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities is Hiring a Behavior Support Coordinator Near Sidney, OH

POSTING DATE: May 31, 2024 until filled

POSITION: Behavior Support Coordinator – Works with the Service and Support Administration Team to provide support to service eligible school aged children, teens and adults who exhibit challenging behaviors through the utilization of age-appropriate behavior support strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required – preferably in education, social work, psychology or a related field. Previous experience with behavior analysis/management and/or behavior support strategy development and implementation a plus. Ability to obtain and maintain Service and Support Administration (SSA) certification. (The Board of DD will provide guidance for the certification process if needed.) Excellent written and oral communication skills. Valid Ohio Drivers’ License and satisfactory driving record. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks and multiple database background checks as defined by Rule 5123-2-02. 

DUTIES: General duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides appropriate programming for school aged children, teens, adults and their families/caregivers.
  • Responds to referrals as assigned, collects assessment data. Gathers considerable individual data through interactions and observation at the home, work, and a variety of settings to provide opinions for the individual’s plan.
  • Facilitates the work of the Individual Service Plan (ISP) team to gather and review all necessary documentation to ensure proper development of Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Support Strategies in accordance with Rule 5123:2-2-06 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Provides needed information and documentation on behavior support strategies for the ISP, Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Evaluation Team Report (ETR).
  • Works collaboratively with other staff members to review all behavior support strategies with restrictive measures prior to Human Rights Committee (HRC) meetings. Serves as a member of the HRC.
  • Models and demonstrates specific interventions to correctly implement the proposed behavior strategy. 
  • Trains and evaluates interventions on-site, monitors all behavior interventions for effectiveness.
  • Provides relevant training for board staff on behavior supports. Acts as a resource for information regarding procedures and positive behavior support interventions.
  • Provides support to children, teens and adults on an individual basis, as well as during small groups on topics to include but not limited to: grief, parenting techniques, coping skills, crisis intervention, social, interpersonal and crisis management skills.
  • Acts as a liaison with community entities and other social service/provider agencies.
  • Completes Targeted Case Management in a timely manner. Maintains confidential records.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, coordinated and effective relations with individuals served, families, providers and others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION: Annual salary starting between $47,100 and $64,120 based on relevant experience. Benefits include Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS); medical, dental, vision, life insurance; paid sick, vacation and personal leave. Eleven paid Federal Holidays and extended holiday periods in July and December.

HOURS: 12-month position. 40 hours per week, generally 8:00am to 4:00pm. Schedule will sometimes require flexibility to meet the needs of individuals and families served. Remote work opportunities available after initial training period completed.
