Position Overview:::
The Community Mobilization Manager at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation will play a crucial role in various initiatives building support for effective, evidence-based approaches to substance use and recovery and advocating for people who use drugs. This position will coordinate the Treatment on Demand Coalition and organize people who use drugs including people in recovery through the HIV Advocacy Network (HAN).
Essential Duties::
  • Treatment on Demand Coalition (60%)::
  • Coalition Coordination:: Manage, organize, and facilitate weekly and monthly coalition meetings. Develop agendas, ensure notes are taken, and follow up with members on commitments and activities.
  • Strategy:: Support the development of strategic vision and positions. Communicate vision to coalition members and other stakeholders. Collaborate on developing position papers and materials with other SFAF staff and coalition members. Organize background research and evidence.
  • Outreach:: Expand coalition capacity through strategic outreach to increase the participation of directly impacted communities including BIPOC-led organizations. Support the work of organizers at other organizations to mobilize community in key moments around coalition priorities.
  • Leadership Development:: Identify community members passionate about harm reduction and expanding substance use and overdose prevention services, with a focus on people who use drugs and people in recovery. Involve community members in advocacy initiatives and coordinate training and support for public testimony, media interviews, and storytelling.
  • Media Engagement:: Support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation’s marketing and communications team to communicate with media, establish and maintain a Treatment on Demand coalition website, and engage the public through social media campaigns.
  • Broader Community Engagement and Outreach (15%)::
  • Outreach:: Plan and lead outreach and engagement with other stakeholders in the broader community including community-based organizations and neighborhood associations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:: Orchestrate and coordinate outreach endeavors, fostering productive dialogue between coalition experts, city officials, public health representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • HIV Advocacy Network (25%)::
  • Logistics & Coordination:: Work with the Director of Community Mobilization and Policy and the HAN leadership team to support and manage the HIV Advocacy Network’s general meetings, working group meetings, and community engagement events through helping to develop agendas, notetaking, food coordination for the meetings, and other logistical needs.
  • Harm Reduction Focus:: Take primary responsibility for work on harm reduction and behavioral health issues within HAN. Identify, recruit, and support harm reduction and recovery-focused HAN members and leaders. Ensure HAN members are informed on harm reduction campaigns and behavioral health-related policy issues.
  • Outreach & Mobilization:: Build on existing organizing efforts focusing on the LGBTQ community, including LGBTQ people in recovery and harm reduction experts to develop a cohort of LGBTQ harm reduction leaders in HAN.
Other DUTIES: :
  • Communication:: Provide updates to SFAF staff, volunteers, and program participants through newsletters, SFAF website, Teams, and other communication channels.
  • Additional responsibilities: Take on additional responsibilities as assigned within the broader scope of the organization's harm reduction and health policy initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:::
  • Ability to navigate complex policy ideas and translate them into actionable initiatives.
  • Motivated, committed to social justice, capable of independent and collaborative work.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with people who use drugs including people in recovery.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint and in Google suite, especially Google docs.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:::
Skill in operating equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. Ability to lift and carry supplies for events. Education and Experience:: :
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3: years of work in community engagement or organizing
  • Meeting facilitation skills
  • Experience supporting coalitions or volunteer community groups strongly preferred
  • Experience working with people who use drugs, LGBTQ individuals, Black, Indigenous and People of Color.
  • Experience with public speaking and community presentations preferred
This position will have access to protected health information (PHI) and may only access, use or disclose the minimum information necessary to perform their designated role on behalf of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, regardless of the extent of access provided.
Work Environment:::
This position may work remotely or be located at 940 Howard Street or 470 Castro Street,: San Francisco. This position does require regular attendance at in-person meetings and events, and may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings. Role will include evening and weekend coverage for advocacy and educational events.
