Sophia's Kitchen is a locally owned, full-service, Italian influenced restaurant located in North Scottsdale. We feature Italian classics, homemade pasta, wood-fired pizza, bruschetta, seafood & more. Full bar including specialty cocktails. Open daily at 11am.

We are currently hiring for the position of Bartender.
Daytime (open at 11am) and Evening (close at 9pm weekdays, 10pm weekends) shifts, either Full or Part time available.

We are seeking individuals with bartending experience in restaurant settings.

TITLE: BARTENDER
REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Bartender plays a leading role in developing positive, lasting guest relationships by consistently delivering an excellent bar experience in our restaurants. As the direct link between the guest and the restaurant, it is primarily the bartender’s responsibility to ensure that each guest enjoys all aspects of their experience. All JGP employees are held to high expectations; it is the bartender’s responsibility to know the drinks/ingredients and restaurant menus inside and out, play an integral part in the financial results of the position, contribute to running side-work, and be self-motivated to go above and beyond our set of standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Know and follow all JGP policies, standards & procedures
  • Follow and practice all alcoholic beverage laws, policies and regulations
  • Welcome and greet guests
  • Make all guests feel comfortable and let them know you’re there to personally take care of them
  • Continuously watch for signs of intoxication for protection and enjoyment of all guests
  • Know regular guests by name, their preferences and their needs
  • Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required
  • Circulate through the assigned bar area on a continuous basis to provide superior guest service at all time
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and clean section, free from dirty glassware, plastic cups, beer bottles
  • Know the brands of beer, wine and liquor offered for consumption, as well as the ingredients to the most commonly asked for cocktails, the garnishes they require, the proper glassware, and price
  • Polish all glasses
  • Clean and maintain reach-in coolers and fixtures in bar
  • Perform and document physical inventory counts at direction of general manager or restaurant manager
  • Inform guests of specialty drinks direction
  • Monitor and observe guest’s experience
  • Make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy
  • Ensure guests are satisfied with service
  • Answer questions about our food, beverages, and other functions and services
  • Respond promptly and courteously to any requests
  • Prepare final bill, present check to guest, accept payment, process credit card charges or make change
  • Enter all orders in the point-of-sale system
  • Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return
  • Participate in proactive communication to help solve operational, HR, and financial issues in an efficient manner
  • Be available to fill in as needed
  • Maintain cash bank and follow established cash efficient operations of the bar as directed by the restaurant

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years like volume bartending experience
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • Must have a great personality, desire to serve guests, and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Must possess basic math skills and the ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Must be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 20 to 25 pounds
  • Must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per JGP standards
  • Must follow safety procedures closely
  • Must be able to work on holidays and/or weekends
