The Dental Assistant will work closely with our providers, ensuring they are supported to achieve their goals and the goals of the organization. This role is vital to the success of our practices. The Dental Assistant will report to the Practice Manager

A Day in the Life of a Dental Assistant

On any given day at Progressive Implantology & Periodontics you can expect to encounter the following:

· Arriving 15 minutes before the 1st patient.

· Working with a driven team of diverse individuals.

· Working in an office that strives for continuous improvement.

· A team that treats everyone with compassion and humanity.

· Working with patients to educate, receive feedback, and to ensure the team is able to provide them with an experience that aligns with the practice’s mission.

· Ensure optimal workflow.

Patient Care

· Prepare for and attend morning huddle with patient information. Review treatment records.

· Prepare the room for the scheduled procedure, have the appropriate instruments and supplies needed for the case. Test all equipment prior to seating the patient.

· Prepare tray setups for dental procedures, plus sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment after each use.

· Retrieve patient from the reception room, walk up to the patient to greet them, walk side by side with patient down the hallway to the treatment room. If applicable offer the patient a beverage and make them comfortable while in consult room or operatory.

· Make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain dental records. Educate patients regarding surgery procedures, take patient’s blood pressure, and take and record patient medical and dental histories and vital signs.

· Provide patients with instructions for oral care following all dental treatment procedures including instructing patients on post-operative and general oral health care.

· Hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Engage in appropriate patient/dentist conversation. Anticipate next steps as much as possible and keep operatories stocked appropriately.

Dental/Lab

· Make casts of teeth and mouth from impressions and clean and polish removable appliances as directed.

· Enter TenEx Procedures into the computer under the correct provider, in the correct folder on the PIP drive.

· Take impressions for surgical guides, dental flippers as needed.

· Apply topical anesthetics to gums and remove sutures as directed.

· Verify accurate procedures, tooth numbers or quadrants are correct, and the provider is attached to each appointment. Change as needed to accurately show the procedure that was completed for given day.

· Schedule in the appropriate template block any future appointments for the patient. Give patient a reminder card as needed. Cards are located in the top drawers in each operatory.

· Fill out and send task list to the Treatment Coordinator.

· Patient Name/Pharmacy/Medications/Medical Clearance/Sedation Type/Appointment Length.

· Send in electronic prescriptions as needed per the request of the doctor for non- controlled substances.

skills in both face-to-face and electronic formats including but not limited to
