Client-Care Technician Job Summary at Nexstep Medical Detox

At Nexstep Medical Detox client-care technicians have the responsibility to provide quality, effective and safe care for clients with substance abuse disorders during their detoxification. Substances of abuse may include alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines or any other legal or illicit substance with the potential to produce tolerance, dependency and physiological and psychological withdrawal symptoms when the abuser ceases use. Client-care technicians at Nexstep work alongside medical assistants and nurses to provide treatment and services for patients. Technicians are also required to drive and be on-call certain days to run errands for facility and transport clients to and from facility - sometimes long distances.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for client supervision and management during medically-monitored stay at Nexstep.

Run errands for facility and transport clients using the company car - sometimes longs distances.

Supervise clients at off-site activities.

Maintain and clean the facility.

Take direction from the nursing and clinical staff.

Assist attending nurse in gathering medical history information and process intake.

Provides routine patient care as delegated by the attending nurse including following care plans and taking vital signs.

Assists patients with activities of daily living.

Transports patients safely to and from airports, AA meetings, and treatment facilities. Other driving duties as assigned.

Observes patient condition and immediately communicates changes/concerns to attending nurse.

Documents patient information for medical record including vital signs.

Follows emergency procedures including using CPR if necessary.

Helps stock department equipment and supplies.

Maintain cleanliness of facility.

Works with office managers, program director, clinical director, medical director, and other staff to ensure the facility functions in accordance with relevant state, department of health and nursing legislation, and fulfill the duty of care in the course of medical care.

Responds promptly to the needs of others and looks for ways to help and serve.

Offers exceptional customer service with every interaction, actively seeking opportunities to give positive, memorable service. Listens carefully and thoughtfully, and works collaboratively to help anyone in need.

Is honest in all dealings. Stays on task and uses time at work to benefit patients, coworkers, providers, and the company as a whole. Actions reflect positively on Nexstep Medical Detox.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years old. Minimum of 6 months sobriety if employee is in recovery, while actively working a recovery program. Must be able to pass initial urine drug screen and maintain clean testing which may be conducted at random by administration.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience: Experience working with clients recovering from substance abuse/alcoholism preferred.

Other Requirements (Provided Upon Hire):

OSHA, HIPAA/HITECH, GHS, and all other necessary compliance training

Ongoing CPR certification.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of basic healthcare skills with emphasis on activities of daily living.

Knowledge of ways to help nurses in clinic setting and to maintain a safe working environment.

Knowledge of body mechanics.

Skills:

Skill in appropriately taking vital signs and weights.

Skill in effectively transferring and transporting patients.

Skill in maintaining a clutter-free, organized work area.

Abilities:

Ability to respond flexibly to changing workload or patient assignments.

Ability to communicate effectively as a health care team member.

Ability to use department supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient, effective manner.

Ability to demonstrate full range of motion, eye–hand coordination, manual/finger dexterity and agility.

Ability to competently use Microsoft Office and cloud-based EMR platform.

Equipment Operated: Standard vital signs and other medical/office equipment. Motor vehicle.

Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with in an inpatient detox facility such as standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting. Some lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional stress related to patient load. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely and within legal specificaitons.

Compensation:

  • $15.75/hour plus differential past midnight while working as staff at the facility or when called in.
  • $2/hour when on-call and available when needed.
  • 12 hour shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM or 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
